750ml wax-sealed bottle received in the 12-month-box of being a Mikeller Beer Club member. Poured into a Spiegelau tulip.
Appearance - Black; completely opaque. Less than a one-finger, beige head that dissipated quickly, leaving a creamy film on the sides of the glass.
Aroma - Roasted malt and burnt coffee, with additional bourbon vanilla sweetness. Although I wouldn't automatically assume cardamom, there is a fresh minty coolness to it. It gives it a subtle smokiness, almost like sweet cigar wrappers, e.g. ACID cigars. Very nice.
Taste - Moderately sweet upfront, followed by pleasant spiciness from the cardamom, and finishing with just the right hop bitterness. The beer's strength is in its balance, although the cardamom gives it some complexity as well. Herbs, liquorice, along with some medicinal notes linger (think of a Kräuterlikör.)
Mouthfeel - Very little carbonation. Creamy texture with a bit of a dry finish. It coats the mouth with a liquorice-like film that again beckons a syrupy Kräuterlikör.
Overall - Although I would love to say this was a completely objective review, the fact that it is a special beer for 12-month members made it personally really cool to me. Regardless, it was certainly an enjoyable libation. Besides, the story and experience of each beer is what makes it special, right?

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
