375 ml. bottle.
Moderate pour yields a fleeting head gone in a minute. Mahogany body with no lacing. Nose of coffee, dried dark fruit, caramel, vanilla, and oak. Taste mirrors nose somewhat with an okay feel for the style. Overall, pretty tasty brew, if you see it, buy it. Cheers!

I believe this and the other listed are the same beer, so I filed this under both.
This was much better than expected. Mikkeller is often hit or miss, but this one was interesting in a good way. The coffee plays a supporting role to the bold bourbon flavor. Drinks basically like a Belgian candy-sugared Quad with a hefty bourbon kick and a slightly dry, roasted finish. I'm curious about the base recipe, as this tastes like what I imagine a BBA Monk's Brew would. Outstanding.

A very promising but incredibly underwhelming brew, with no bourbon or coffee aromas plus a thin mouthfeel. Severely lacking, I quit before reaching half of the bottle. Other reviewers speak of a complex beer with lots of coffee... I wonder.

amazing to finally get my hands on this one, way less sweet that the regular version, although still a nice maple and brown sugar complexion to this, especially in this finish. clear radiant amber from the bottle with a thick iceberg looking white head on it and a lot of chunky yeast bits churning around. slight oxidation in the nose, maybe a product of its age and cellaring temperature, but magic nonetheless, with a lot of green coffee, funk, belgian yeast, and alcohol, its plenty complex. i mos enjoy the nutty nature of the coffee juxtaposed against a spicy belgian yeast strain and quite a bit of sweet malty body. i can see where some may think this a bit saturated and intense, but i quite like the layers of flavor happening, as well as the booze warmth going down. this is the kind of beer i have come to expect from mikkeller. extremely distinct and only loosely beholden to style conventions. so glad claystation shared a bottle today, this is memorable for all the right reasons and something to be savored with close friends. not overly bourbon forward, but the character from the barrel ageing is important. a marked improvement over the original at least in my opinion...

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/21/2021. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red/light copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big golden raisin, plum, fig, apple, date, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, coconut, and toasted oak; with lighter chocolate, cocoa, and coffee notes; and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, bourbon barrel, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate coffee notes; with great strength. Taste of big golden raisin, plum, fig, apple, date, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, coconut, and toasted oak; with lighter chocolate, cocoa, and coffee flavors; and oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate yeast and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark fruits, pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, coconut, toasted oak, cocoa, coffee, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bourbon barrel, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate coffee flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from yeast/oak spiciness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with a small warmth lingering after the finish; with minimal booziness. Overall this is an outstanding BBA Belgian strong dark ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, bourbon barrel, dark/bready malt, and light-moderate coffee flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Green 12.7 oz bottle poured into a Bourbon County Barrel Warehouse snifter. #endcancer
Appearance: True to the “Abbey Ale” descriptor pours an opaque dark, reddish brown. About half a finger of head quick reducing itself to a ring with a film. Pretty solid head retention for a barrel aged beer.
Aroma: Unique and inviting nose. Light bourbon barrel (coconut, toasted oak) up front backed by the Abbey style base (plum, bubblegum, candi sugar) and a chocolaty coffee finish. With all that’s going on up front the coffee provides a nice backdrop.
Taste: Like the nose, the Abbey style base is the focus. However it’s enhanced quite nicely by the bourbon barrel sweetness (coconut, toasted oak, brown sugar) and rounded out by the coffee. The coffee comes off as more of a chocolate note then a roasty, peppery coffee. The base beer is like a solid dubbel, sweet maltiness, dried stone fruit, peppery/rose like phenols.
Mf: Very well carbonated, even a little too well. Medium feel. Sweet with a warming finish. Not boozy.
Overall: While I wasn’t sure what to expect with a bourbon barrel aged “Abbey Ale” with coffee this turned out to be a very good combination. The Abbey base is a solid, estery dubbel style with a sweet touch yet it’s rounded out by oak bourbon barrels (like being a barrel warehouse) and a nutty, chocolaty coffee finish. Very well put together. Recommended if you like Mikkeller, BSDAs, and Nebraska.
