a fascinating beer from mikkeller here, loosely a belgian strong ale, but that does nothing to describe how interesting this is. not sure if skor is always aged in wine barrels or if i got lucky enough to find a special edition, but this beer is really cool, old now and oxidized a bit, but i never mind that in this type of brew. its sort of built like an old ale, barleywine-esque with some belgian yeast nuance, but the yeast seems tired now, and its not as overtly belgian as it likely once was. i like the darker and sweeter malt base, a little boozy and caramelized, but also sort of light in a way, not as heavy as it could be, and with a curious tart cherry complexion, some obvious tannins and fruit coming through from the red wine barrels and the time in the bottle. raspberry tang, even a currant astringency in the background, almost makes this seem wild for a moment, the barrel effects are certainly unconventional here. toffee, clove spice, autumnal energy, wet cardboard, candy apple, there is a lot going on here, and even though its a little fatigued tasting and feeling, its still really cool beer. a strong ale that really is one of a kind. even when i dont love the beer, i always know i am getting something interesting and unique when i drink something from mikkeller. this is a weird one, but i had a lot of fun with it.

Not as bad as the white wine BA Ahhh, but that's not saying much either. Smells like grape juice, but similar to the Ahhh, it has a bitter, solvent- like aftertaste to it. Not as extreme, but not pleasant.
Oh Mikkeller, the epitome of the hit-or-miss brewery.
