This oddly-named Imperial IPA pours to a large, pebbly, off-white head on a very hazy, very effervescent golden body; head retention is modest and lacing is excellent, consisting of a solid, unbroken rotten sheet with density variations that correspond to the sips taken. The nose is medium-large; it leads with zwieback toasted malt and grapefruit, then the malt vanishes and the grapefruit is joined by a delicious blend of cannabis-like florals, more subtle perfume and hints of cotton candy and pineapple. Modest alcohol overtones top things off. Up front, the palate is a quite bitter blend of pineapple and citrus; mid-palate a subtle echo of the florals from the nose, most notably the perfume, accents the fruit notes from the hops, and a quite modest grassy character emerges. The malt shows itself as a moderate nutty bittersweetness, more modest caramel and a fairly well-exposed bready foundation; while the malt character is considerable, the hops hold their own and the bitterness seems undiminished. The finish is a goodly hit of alcohol and nutty caramel, and is modestly astringent; the linger is a considerable pine bitterness- a bit grassy, a bit nutty- that lasts for quite awhile. Retrogustative olfaction is mildly grassy. Mouthfeel is on point for the medium body, and is distractingly astringent; the texture is medium-creamy and slightly peppery from the restrained carbonation. (growler)
