Overall a good Black ipa.
Hoppy up front, almost dank. Hints of cocoa and caramel. Malty. Mild bitterness. Give it a try.

On tap, poured a murky brown clouded color. Smells of citrus, dark fruits and some earthiness. Taste starts off with sweet citrus, some light cocoa then a light bitter hop flavor. This was a crisp, refreshing and easy to drink black NE style IPA. I would definitely try this again.

Pours a mahogany brown into a fifteen ounce mug at the same temperature as the beer. Hazy to almost opaque. Nice two finger head that settles to a rocky a one finger. Big spotty foamy lacing.
Citrus hops on the nose with ripe ruby red grapefruit. Piney then dark sweet malt.
Taste follows the nose with citrus hops up front followed by an almost porter flavor. Lots of grain. Quite an interesting blend. Add to this some resinous pine and citrus rind.
Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Good carbonation that hits the mark.
This brew appears to be attempting to meld a good IPA with a medium bodied porter. Not bad at all. Very strange flavor profile.

Pours a murky brownish black. Can you say murky when it's black? Well, this is. Sort of.
The smell is schizophrenic, blending roasted, porter-like notes, with juicy lemon. So roasted juice, I guess...
Taste is more roasted than juicy, with a ton of licorice. It still manages to be pretty juicy and crisp, with a nice hop bite.
Mouthfeel is medium, soft and smooth.
This is one the weirder beers I've had in a while. The smell made me go Huh?, and the taste was a bit WTF. Very good beer overall, and manages to really live up to the moniker of NE Style Black IPA.

Bitter, toasty and floral converge for a ménage à trois of taste in Mikkeller's New England-style "black" IPA.
Foggy Figures pours more than simply foggy. Murky brown in color, the beer carries the appearance of a freshly soiled mud puddle. And that's in juxtaposition to its floral arrangement of citrus, tropical and herbal perfumes, and with a backdrop of toast and char. Malty to start, the sweetness of caramel and toffee link with light coffee, cocoa and toast.
As the sweetness lifts, the taste of hops and toasted grains trend juicy, dry and bitter. Pineapple, grapefruit, orange and mango sift through the toasted remnants of grain for the essence of grilled or charred fruit. Cocoa and coffee present a moderately light palate while chasing a woodsy, herbal and grassy finish into a resinous pine-like bitterness to close.
Medium bodied, frothy and creamy, the ale's texture remains firm until a final plunge into dryness deep in finish. Well headed and lacing down to the last sip, the beer becomes pleasantly dry and drinkable later in finish, trailing only with a bitter aftertaste of coffee grounds, fruit rinds and a fresh herbal medley.

One pint can poured into a snifter also once had on-tap at Mikkeller Bangkok.
Hazy mahogany brown hue with lots of sediment, it tops with massive creamy light khaki head that very well retains itself with very good retention before slowly subsiding to an eternal fluffy crown and leaving sticky lacing all along the glass-side.
Rich fruity hop in the aroma, comprising with the following hop profiles of intense pine, some resin, spice, mild herbal, pepper, floral, tropical, citrus, lime, pineapple, and passion fruit. Malt is also there obviously with its dark bread, toasted biscuit, chocolate, coffee, and some caramel.
The taste is quite balance between juicy hop and roasted malt with hop being led and slightly overtone. Hop provides its taste of intense pine, some resin, spice, mild herbal, pepper, floral, tropical, citrus, lime, pineapple, and passion fruit while malt lends its dark bread, toasted biscuit, chocolate, coffee, and some caramel just like the aroma. The end and aftertaste have upright bitterness from both roasted and hop flavor as well as some residual sweet fruitiness.
Medium body with some good crispness and good lively carbonation, the feeling is crisp and refreshing with its nice smoothness and a pleasantly dry finish.
Good Black IPA with lots of fruitiness and crisp hoppiness as well as all kinds of dark and roasted malt through all the sensations, the difference from tap and bottle is that from bottle the roasted and toasted yet chocolate and coffee characters from malt are much more distinctive.
