Copenhagen 3/11 2018. 37,5 cl light green bottle from Mikkellers Webshop. Drawing of Grumpy guys with pear-shaped heads on the label.

Pours hazy golden orange with very big white head. Settles as 3 cm thick, frothy layer of fluffy foam. Crawling up the side of the glass. Substantial lacing.

Aroma is dampened by the massive layer of foam. Fruity sweetness meeting tart berries. Sweet pear coming through crystal clear. Tart sour gooseberries competing for attention. A little sharp but rounded by the sweetness.

Strong carbonation. Soft, creamy texture. Lightly prickly.

Flavor is medium sweet followed by stronger sourness. Aftertaste is sour with lighter sweet undercurrent. Lingers for a short while.

Nice fairly civilized Wild Ale. Pretty fresh and without much funky weirdness. Nice for what it is.

This really comes off as a Belgian dubbel with a wild fermentation twist. Not a lot of what I would normally associate with fresh pear. More like a pear glaze you might find in a dessert topping but without the added sweetness. Really great carbonation and viscosity. Leaves long lingering flavors like what I imagine you'd experience ten minutes after taking a vodka shot diluted with unfiltered apple juice, lime, and salt.

a cool wild ale here brewed with special pears from some far away danish island. its a gorgeous beer, not as sour or bacterial as a lot off the other mikkeller wild beers, more funky and winey, really a perfect base for these pears, which are front and center in a neat way here. usually pear in beer is artificial tasting to me, even if its made with real fruit. something about the pears just always smell and taste like perfume to me, but not this one. this to me tastes like the skins of a ripe green pear, tart a little bit, and that element is played up by the tangy and funky wild yeast in here, but also sweet and fleshy and juicy, with sharp white wine notes and a ton of floral character. the pear tastes amazingly natural to me for how forward it is, which i think is the real success of this beer. white grape, elderflower, dried straw, and fresh citrus also flash in and out here, giving this beer impressive depth. a little sourness to finish, but a lot of warm fermented saison sort of esters, its rustic but new school at the same time, and the fruit is there in the front the whole way. nice carbonation from the bottle, cool label art, and overall another one of a kind beer from mikkeller. these are the beers that make me love mikkeller so much! nobody else is doing this...
