Walnut black with a short but dense tan head dying to a creamy film rolled at the edges.
The medium, softly fluffy yet smooth body is accented by raspberry as the delicately chocolate-forward malt takes over. This is spiked with a touch of peppery yet caramel-forward barrel before coming back to the light but bright burst of raspberry, colliding with a finely chewy dry finish. A light hint of smoky tobacco comes out on the aroma, while taste is sweeter but also a little numbing in feel.

Received this in the mikkeller monthly beer box, waited a while to open it knowing it would be tough to drink in one sitting. This is a thick, luscious beer with caramel, raspberry and chocolate flavors. Barrel flavor is in the background. It’s delicious but I’m going to wine stopper it and drink it over a few nights I don’t really want more than 4 ounces at a time it’s just so sweet as it warms

Appearance - The poured black with reddish hues and a tan head.
Smell - Raspberry is very present in the nose.
Taste - Wow, the initial taste has way more raspberry than I expected. There was also something about the profile than reminds me of chewing wild plant- life. Any presence of the base beer is masked. The rasberry lingers nicely.
Mouthfeel - Though not overly think, the beer has a body.
Overall - The beer was not what I expected. It was better.

A shouldn't work / works amazingly well beer. A bit too much sweetness in the end; a dessert beer. But you don't feel that 12% ... until you "feel" that 12%. The yeasty complexities of a bock are a bit overwhelmed by the chocolate covered raspberry element but the lack of complexity doesn't undermine the intensity.

Pours a dark brown with a nice finger of head that fizzes away pretty quickly. Due to the unusual style for getting a raspberry treatment, the smell and flavor profile are both in an uncanny valley: not a fruited oud bruin or style that is aggressively, intentionally sour, and the bock provides enough malty sweetness so that the raspberry becomes a bit cloying. It's tasty and delivers on its promises, but as such, it's hard to get past the instinctual impression that the fruity tartness tastes like what could otherwise be an unwanted lacto or pedio infection in another beer.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark brown, bordering on jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and extremely faint dark cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy dark tab head that slowly reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of lightly roasted malts + chocolate malts with a light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness with a light presence of slightly sweet raspberries.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of lightly roasted malts + chocolate malts with a light hint of smoked malts and a light to moderate amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of slightly sweet raspberries which linger through the finish.
M: Full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Creamy and smooth.
O: This beer is an excellent example of the style (albeit with the addition of raspberries) and extremely easy to drink, especially considering the strength. Definitely worth grabbing and I would happily have this one again.
