this is good beer, but i think i am duped a little by the fruit, like i think without it, we might not have the best base berliner, and if they spent as much time on the berliner as they obviously did stuffing fruit into it, it might be a whole lot better. im not convinced i ever really liked the base beer all that much, but the intensity of the fruits in each of them have made them quite unique, and i think it makes up for the lackluster, or what i perceive to be lackluster, base berliner. this pours the color of an exploded purple sharpie with a rising pink head over an inch high, closer to two, and extremely dense and saturated looking, nothing delicate about this. the aroma is light vinegar, red wine, cheesy lacto, and acetic tang, and the flavor is the same. blueberry jam or preserves sure, some confectioners type sweetness to it, and a lot of acidity with the sugar here. the sourness isnt as clean as it should be, and i taste no wheat. on top of that, its a little metallic, tasting a bit like the can. all that said, the fruit is awesome, natural or not, and the pucker cuts it in a cool way. i was maybe a little glad to be sharing the can, but mikkeller continues to hold my attention, even if its more from befuddlement in this case than awe. not a great beer, but hard not to enjoy it, if that makes sense in this context...

500ml can - moving my way through these fruity variants, and now we come to blueberry.

This beer pours a murky, dark purple colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly pink head, which leaves some chunky splattered lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of muddled dark berries, bready and doughy wheat malt, faint lemon rind, and a further generic tartness. The taste is blueberry-forward mixed fruit juice, gritty and grainy pale malt, a lesser edgy sour wheatiness, still ethereal lemon peel, a bit of estery yeastiness, and some mild dried banana chips.

The carbonation is quite restrained in its laid-back frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and more or less smooth, with just a touch of berry tartness the proverbial pea in the mattress. It finishes trending dry, the fruit still present in all its smoothie glory, just sans the sugar.

Overall - this is a much better rendering of a fruited-up Berliner Weisse than the mango one was, as you can at least pick out the blueberries amongst their friends. Refreshing, and fairly tasty, it's like the grown-up version of those blended fruit juice boxes that my pre-schooler inhales. Worthy of checking out, especially if you're a fan of the style.

Tasted in a stemless Berliner Weiss bowl from a 1 pt .9 fl oz can on August 23, 2017. Best before 08/06/18. A nice blend of sweet blueberries and sour citrus.
