16 June 2020 - Beer #121

Corona Day #96

Price: $24.99 at Half Time Beverage in Mamaroneck, NY

Appearance: 5 - extremely thick and viscous on the pour. Nothing but a halo of head remains, but it's here to stay.

Nose: 4 - what's there smells really good, there's just not much of it. Mild coffee, some barrel.

Taste: 5 - outstanding but subtle. I am not a coffee drinker, but whatever coffee they used here is incredible.

Mouth: 5 - very thick, a real mouthful. Goes down smooth, though. As well crafted a brew I've had.

Overall: 5 - best I've ever had from Mikkeller, regardless if where in the world they brewed it.

Stay safe out there, my friends.

Cheers!

Enjoyed from the 500ml bottle in a snifter. This excellent offering
pours a jet black with a nice head of tan foam that settles to a thick
ring with subtle lacing. Nose of rich coffee, mellow bourbon, oak,
vanilla, earthy malts, and dark fruit notes. Flavors surpass the nose with
an excellent presentation of the style. Dark smooth coffee breaks over
dark mild cocoa and crashes into a smooth bourbon barrel heavy laden
with brown sugars, vanilla, lightly musty oak, and dashed with earthy malts.
Warmth shows nice parlay with dark fruit notes of sweet blue and blackberry
with touches of tobacco faint peppery elements. Very nice mouth feel; full
slick body, smooth as silk, light carbonation, coating, warming, and finishing
with a rich bourbon and coffee note sans bitterness and faintly dry.

Excellence. Nothing more one could say....just fantastic.

This one should win MANY awards!

Cheers

9100th review! 500 ml bottle into snifter, 2019 vintage. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky dark tan head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Slight booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, licorice, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Very minimal herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, dark bread/crust, coconut, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a solid roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and super full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, lightly slick, and slightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is insane. Mild increasing warmth of 11.3%, with no lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is an insane imperial stout! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; dangerously smooth and easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the minimally bitter/tannic/drying finish; insanely soft/silky feel. Perfectly balanced between super rich malts, fruity/nutty coffee complexity, and bourbon barrel presence/integration. Mild earthy hops, and fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly amazing offering, and world class style example.

Pours a jet black with a tan to brown head. Nose is of bourbon, roasted malts and dark roast coffee. Taste roasted malt forward with coffee, light caramel, slight vanilla and sweet bourbon. Very light barrel presence on this one but I do pick up a slight bit of charred oak. Medium to full body with a roasty finish and slight bourbon burn to end. Good beer.
