a pilsener lager with nelson hops, on tap at their san francisco location. its a shade darker than a lot of pils types, but it could be the dim lighting in here playing tricks on my eyes. its definitely a little less carbonated than i like to see in the style, but its hard to complain with the nice fresh nelson hop aroma and flavor this one has. preserved lemons, lemongrass, white wine, watermelon rind, lime, white tea, pineapple, and tangerine all come to mind with these hops in this context, very little malt interference, just a crackery dry classic pils type complexion underneath all the hops, which in truth probably seem like more than there are, given such a light base they can really pop, and i imagine a little goes a long way in a beer like this. i wish for more carbonation, but i love the interaction of the hops and the lager yeast in the finish, the hops racing to bitter and perpetuate themselves, while the yeast races to dry it out and cut it all off as quick as possible. they basically tie, and this finishes as flavorful as it starts. i feel like mikkeller has a hundred different pilseners and they are all excellent...
