an elite level keller pils, mikkeller can do no wrong right now, and for how much i like and admire how ambitious and out there so many of their beers get, sometimes its the simple ones like this that really show the most competence and understanding of the whole thing, this is excellent beer, raw and unfiltered lager, a cool mix of european and american which makes this unique in a style that has so little room for creative freedom i feel. its also interesting in the context of other mikkeller pils types, of which i must have had ten by now, somehow they all taste just different enough to me, not sure i know another brewery who has reinvented the wheel quite this many times in appealing ways. super light straw colored beer, bubbly and just lightly hazy, still well refined looking. dry crackery european pils type malt nose, cerealy and fast, with a clean lager yeast aroma thats rather minimal and a citrus complexion to the hops, not so noble and classic there to me, but maybe a few varietals at work, definitely in the bohemian style. the flavor is great, so fresh with the hops, the yeast having a really minimal flavor but drier the beer out incredible well and adding to the lagered maturity of it. good body for being such an easy drinker, minerals and a little hop bitterness at the end, grass and lime, a flash of a saaz type hop now, and a little grain oomph at the end. overall just a splendid beer, so clean and simple, so refreshing. i love pilsener when its this good!
