Copenhagen 30/10 2018. 47,3 cl can from Mikkellers Webshop. Small label on metallic can giving a pretty cool look. Keith Shore drawing of very dark Tsunami on the label.

Pours opaque dark brown - almost black . with small beige head. Settles as flimsy, thin layer of foam barely covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma is strong, boozy and spicy. Black bitter coffee, dark chocolate, lighter odor of brown sugar subdued roastiness, salty soy sauce and some partly hidden odor of alcohol.

Soft carbonation. Fat, creamy, soft texture. Slightly sticky.

Flavor is heavy sweet followed by medium bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet, heavy and with hints of bitterness. Lingers for a while. Notable alcoholic burn.

Heavy, hard-hitting brew superbly suited for a cold Autumn Night.

 

 

 

a collaboration with finback and another winner from mikkeller featuring maple syrup, they have a ton of maple beers now, and all of them are awesome. this one isnt barrel aged, but is made with a barrel aged maple syrup! pretty awesome, and you do get some genuine whiskey character to this. its a huge beer, if its a lager, its impossible to appreciate with all the body and sweetness, but the flavors are incredible, liquid fudge to me from the malt, sweet from the maple too, with dark chocolate, coffee, and ashen sort of bitterness from the darkest of the barley in here. light smoke, raisin, prune, fig, tobacco, and baking chocolate are all there too, along with the maple, which has some vanilla to it because of the barrel, maple long through the finish, outlasts even the density of the body on the palate, delicious but on the edge of diabetic. the maple is awesome though, rich and natural and definitely benefiting from the barrel treatment. thick like sludge, a little boozy, but deeply satisfying. a cool expression of this special maple syrup, and another eight dollar pint can that i dont regret from these guys...

 

A 1 pint can, with a Julian canned on date of 18059, meaning that it was canned on 28th February 2018. Poured into a MBCC 2018 stemmed tasting glass.

Appearance: Dark dark brown to black colour with a half finger mocha head that dissipated fairly quickly, but left some nice lacing.

Aroma: Smokey, char, roasted malts, dark chocolate and milk chocolate.

Taste: Roasty malts, bitter dark chocolate, smoke/ashy, followed by creamy milk chocolate, with only a very small hint of maple and maybe even some dark fruit.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium to full bodied with moderate to low carbonation.

Overall: A nice and enjoyable Baltic Porter, but I’m not getting much of the maple that it is supposedly brewed with.

A: The beer is jet black in color—traces of dark red are present near the edges of the glass. It poured with a thin dark tan head that left a large patch of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of roasted malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell but is a little less roasty and has faint hints of burnt sugars and maple syrup from the barrel aging.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: It's a little disappointing this this beer didn't have more in the way of maple syrup, but it still tastes like a Baltic Porter. It is easy to drink as no alcohol is present in the taste.

L: Deep, dark black with a big, very thick and creamy dark tan head that left a lot of thick lacing.

A: Primarily burnt caramel malts, heavy toasted bread, and maple syrup. Some lighter notes of the barrel aging and dark fruits round things out.

T: Pretty much follows aroma spot on with a fuller flavor. Stronger notes of the dark fruits.

F: Medium, maybe a bit thin, smooth, creamy, solid bitterness.

O: Really enjoyed this collab. brew with Finback. The base is a strong, complex porter, and the barrel aged maple gives it a nice unique finish.

 

 

 

Can poured into a pub glass

A: Pours nearly black with a frothy tan head that settles to a thin layer and leaves some nice lacing.

S: Roasty, dark dried fruit, dark bitter chocolate, burnt toast, dark sugar, molasses, faint maple, and the slightest hint of barrel.

T: Roasty, dark chocolate, dark fruit, burnt toast, molasses, and subtle maple with just the faintest barrel presence.

M: Medium to full body, moderate carbonation, slightly creamy.

O: Maple is more subtle than I was hoping for, but it provides a nice accent. Solid stout.
