The beer pours out a murky dark amber/light brown color, with 2 fingers of white head------------------ the aromas are of tartness, malts, red wine and red berries-------------------- the flavors are of pine, red wine and red berries, the beer has a medium to full mouthfeel with a light bitterness on the finish--------------------- overall this beer is very good - it was a bit different, it had an almost sourness to it with some tart berries and red wine shining through finishing on the dry side--

a little less refined here than some of the other mikkeller ipa types, this one done with black currants. its super murky in the glass, a red color tries to make it look more appealing, but its lost in here and looks almost brown, mucky, not amazing. the nose and taste are nice though, real currants are immediately evident, tangy and astringent and medicinal, like aronia and elderberry too, concentrated, beyond tart, and neat with the heavy dry hop in here which is both citrusy and tropical, a cool fruity complexion results. i get lemongrass, canned pineapple, passion fruit, tropical starburst candy, and lime in the nose from the hops, all with the striking drying tang of the currants. some mild bitterness and even hop bite later on, lots of body, more than there needs to be, and a weighty feeling that doesnt really belong with this summery flavor complexion. obviously they are onto something with this, the combination of the fresh currants in this concentration and this hop profile really marry up well together, but the beer itself needs some cleaning up to be drinkable, and a little toning down overall. not the more compelling of the mikkeller hoppy stuff, but a cool combination of flavors that i hope they revisit...

A: Pours a murky golden reddish burnt orange brown in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and moderate medium golden yellow + garnet red + chestnut brown + amber colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense sudsy foamy beige head that reduces to a few small patches of thin film surrounded by a large patch of very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of juicy tropical/mango, tropical/papaya, and citrus/orange hops along with moderate tart berry/red currants over the top of light aromas of biscuit + caramel + pale malts with a light amount of flour and some light to moderate caramel sweetness.
T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of biscuit + caramel + pale malts with a light amount of flour and some light to moderate caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of tart berry/red currants. Finally there are moderate flavors of juicy tropical/mango, tropical/papaya, and citrus/orange hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades away quickly leaving lingering tart red currant flavors.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Soft and fluffy/pillowy with a light amount of dryness in the finish.
O: I was not really sure what to expect as I have never had a NEIPA with red currants but this one was very interesting and definitely grew on me - the first couple of sips it seemed like the flavors clashed but then they started to become more synergistic. Drinks pretty easily and hides the alcohol well.

Pours a hazy red-brown-orange, with some soapy head.
Smell is juicy and fruity, and almost a bit tart because of the currants, that dominate with a backing chorus of mango and oranges.
Taste is very peculiar. It's juicy but dry, a bit tart and still pretty damn bitter. First sips are more weird than good, but the tastes come together very well after a bit.
Mouthfeel is medium, very soft and pillowy, with good carbonation.
Overall, a very unusual IPA, and a treat if you like black currants.

Look: Murky watered down red color. Looks like a bloody mary once the ice has melted. About a fingers worth of head with loads or residual lacing. I think the color is neat, and if you didn't know black currants were in it, one would think it is oxidized.
Smell: Tart berry smell upfront. Lemongrassy hop smell. The more of a nose I get on it, there is a sweet aspect to it, perhaps from the currants.
Taste: Tart berry flavor initially with subtle grassy hop flavoring. Grapefruit and orange present as well. Finish is slightly tart and bitter with a little sweetness. The more I drink it, the more I enjoy the flavor.
Feel: Medium in body and weight. Carbonation is moderate. Has a soft and creamy feel.
Overall: I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was happy that I tried it. I don't think I have had anything with black currants in it, and the more I drank, the more I enjoyed it. That said, it may not be my favorite NEIPA, but still a fun beer to try. I am grateful to have tried. Cheers!
