awesome little bottle here, i am so excited about these baghaven beers, wish i had better access, but was thankful to get to drink a few of them at the san francisco mikkeller last week. this one is a wild ale in french oak with passion fruit, ancient method, modern ingredient, super cool. lightly orange tinted brew without a lot of head but with spritzing carbonation still. the aroma is immediately mouthwatering, quite puckery and acidic it seems, but full of crazy layers too, the passion fruit is extremely real and boldly dosed, there is a lot of lambic type funk here too which i was missing in the other baghaven produced beer i had in the same session, and the wet woodiness is very unifying, vinous and tangy and intriguing, even a little green glass character to it. the flavor is all passion fruit at first, like strikingly real, similar tartness to it, a little white wine vinegar behind it, and the wood, but its loaded with the fruit, unmistakable. once my palate gets used to it i start to taste an actually pretty substantial malt base, a truly wild yeast complexion even though the bacterial component still runs the show, and bright springtime floral character. its rather sour, so a good one to share even though its in the little bottle, but awesomely complex, bright, and distinctive. this is the kind of beer i have been anticipating from this location, still a little light on the funk compared to the souring, but worth the price and memorable just the same...
