an incredibly unique and drinkable glass of lager here, a keller pils type fermented in white wine barrels. i havent seen these types of liberties taken with lagers much before, especial pale rather classic pilsener ones, and the result is a distinctive and brilliant summer drinker with a lot more character than so many of these have, even though the barrel isnt heavy. a light haze over this one and a nice white head from the tap. the aroma is fruity white wine, green apples and peaches and a little acidity, chardonnay if i had to surmise, a little tannic and rich, some minerals evident, a little tang to it, not quite funky but interesting beyond just lager yeast, and of course the fresh pils malt underneath it all, earthy, crackery, simple the flavor is about the same, not too much oak or wine, but enough to make this very different from just a pils. the lager yeast seems to love the wood, a little musty rustic funk creeping in, the oak has a vanilla sort of newness to it, and the wine is bright and sharp, but not at all overdone. this still feels delicate for how flavorful it is, and its dry and well carbonated too, refreshing as a barrel aged beer can be, and a cool tiwst on a classic style! i thought this was awesome.
