part of the david lynch series of collaborative beers, some of the coolest can art i have seen in a long time, really catchy and jazzy labels on these, fairly priced too, which i always love. mikkeller has a solid grasp on using coffee in beer, which is to say i think i have had more coffee beers in more diverse styles than from any other brewer out there, and when fresh like this one is, they are some some of my very favorites! this is hersheys syrup thick and dark dark brown, highly viscous and without a lot of carbonation activity on it. the coffee aroma is both strong and sweet, one of those coffee types that exhibits a lot of chocolate and caramel notes, toffee, its richer, and with the richer malt base, it smells quite wintery, warming, and hearty. the flavor of the coffee is front and center, but it also contributes some needed bitterness, dark cocoa earthiness, and even a little smoke. its super well integrated into a rather substantial base beer, and even though sweetness lingers a bit just because of how thick this is, it finishes nicely, with the roast of the coffee and the barley working well together. the coffee is intense here, and so this worked as a breakfast beer and hangover cure pretty well, it tastes and feels like a morning drink, and i really dug this. i should have picked up the other cans in this series when i had the chance...
