Collaboration with Amager Bryghus - Bottled at Amager Bryghus
- Bourbon Whiskey Barrel version.
Imperial Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee & aged in Bourbon Whiskey Barrels - This unique blend of two of Denmark's best Imperial Stouts. We have brewed Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel & Amager Bryghus Mr. Frederiksen separately and then blended the two brews. This has provided a very balanced, harmonious and full-bodied beer. After maturing, the beer is stored in our cold cellar for almost a year.

From the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This nice little brew pours a
dark blackish brown with a very nice head of tan foam that settles
to a thick ring, thin wafting pooling layer, and shows subtle
lacing. Nose of coffee, chocolate, char, bourbon, oak, and
faint vanilla. Flavors expand on the nose nicely with coffee
to the fore, whiskey more precisely with spicy rye notes and
mild vanilla with dark chocolate and musty oak notes. Nice mouth
feel; full body, smooth, warming, light carbonation, and a medium
dry finish that is warming and rich with balanced sweetness.
Overall---excellent!

Not sure what to expect here. A blend of Mr Frederiksen which I have not had and weasel, then aged in bourbon barrels.
The nose is classic Mikkeller stout. Aged notes, some soy sauce, chocolates, hint of coffee, touch of bourbon, and a nice sweat caramel and milk chocolate malt.
The flavor is much the same. Warm body, sharp citrus hops are still pretty well represented, but aged stout, chocolate, touch of soy sauce, vanilla, rum, oak, and honestly without looking for it I think the coffee would be lost on me, but yes there is coffee flavor here. After a while I realize there's actually a lot of coffee, but at first it is hidden in the other flavors which is a weird thing for coffee to do. It however after the sip is over, coffee lingers but it is almost out of nowhere at first.
For 10.7 this one drinks hot. It has a nice carbonated body, but it is also a bit acidic. None of this is uncommon for these guys though so likely what one would expect form Mikkeller.
Overall at 16 bucks, I can't really recommend it strongly. It is however pretty darn tasty and absolutely what I'd expect from a barrel aged Mikkeller. If you're a fan of the Weasle, you'll like this one too I think.
