world class stout right here, specific to their new york brewery, i loved this one, a huge roasty imperial stout, dense and black, aged on oak with vanilla beans, neither of which dominate this beer at all, but add neat nuance and depth to an impeccably built big stout. mikkeller stouts have always been among the highlights, so i was stoked to see one at the new york location. its inky and dense from the tap with a short tan head and a really rich nose. ashen charred dark barley meets sweet decadent natural vanilla, an earthy woody character with some sweetness to it, and an almost burnt coffee character as well from the grain. complex to say the least, but super well integrated as well, vanilla less obvious in the taste than the nose, with more of a the dark grains rising up, quite bitter, fire roasted or something, warming though too, not acrid or aggressive, and i think the alcohol is pretty well hidden for how strong it is too. smooth and long in feel, with a little warmth from the alcohol but not much, and a density and mellowness from the wood that makes it seem especially mature. i really like the depth of flavor on this, the huge dark grain base and the added wrinkles. scary drinkable really for what it is, and perfect for this cold grey windy winter in the city. i loved this!

Served in a snifter glass from the can.
Appearance: super dark brown in reality it comes off almost black with a semi dark tan head creating medium coming off maybe a tenth of an inch off the body. Zero stickiness to the glass.
Smell: The scent comes off like American coffee and dose of molasses it's quite heavy but it dissipates a little quicker than what I wanted it to.
Taste: very complex with a woody finish consisting of warm brown sugar and espresso. It's a touch multi and smoothly better and has a super addicting taste, almost like indulging yourself in a coffee infused devil's food cake.
Mouth: very sticky with a full body and medium carbonation.
Overall: awesome pick up it's a little pricey if you ask me especially considering it's from New York (local) unless the supermarket that I bought it from is scalping the price. granted I would buy this again and again but I would not make this a consistent beer especially when it's about 9 bucks a can. Always in a glass... Salud!

Appearance: Arrives close to black in color with a thin cap; a few strands of lace
Smell: Roast, chocolate and vanilla bean
Taste: Roast and molasses forward, with chocolate and vanilla bean building; oak and some hoppy bitterness in the middle, but the finish leans to the sweet side; the bitter tones re-emerge in the aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation
Overall: A nice job here of balancing the sweet elements as the beer touches the barrier but never becomes cloying; the vanilla is powerful

Dark stout - similar to the prarie artisanal ales series. Good sweetness with taste of molasses and coffee. Well balanced with good sweetness and drinkability.
