A: The beer is nearly jet black in color—only traces of dark brown are visible near the edges of the glass when it is held up to a bright light. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that left a patch of bubbles covering part of the surface and a wide collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of chocolate malts and malted milk are present in the nose.
T: The taste has flavors of chocolate malts along with notes of malted milk.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied and a bit airy and smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is a littler lighter in body compared to other milk stouts but does a good job at replicating the taste of a chocolate egg cream.

an egg cream inspired soda style stout, whatever that means. its a cool beer, seems uniquely festive this time of year, and has a radically different texture than anything in this style i have had before, its fizzy and sweet, a little thinner than a lot of classic milk stout types, and really does have kind of a soda pop effervescence to it, if that was in fact they goal, they nailed it. almost drinks like a soda float, with a definite creaminess to the feel and sweetness from the lactose. cocoa here is pretty flavorful, some fudge type density to it, a light sweetness, but more than anything its a dark chocolate richness, kind of decadent but its only there for a second, its not pervasive all the way through this or anything. furthermore, it has a neat sort of root beer or sarsaparilla thing to it, maybe im making it up in my head, but like vanilla and anise seem background notes here. fizzy carbonation, dry cocoa through the finish, some roasted specialty malts but its not heavy at all, really interesting mix of flavors and feels here, right for the holidays and qute unexpected. creative beer in a cool way. what the heck is egg cream though?
