16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 10/21/21, had 2/4/22. Obtained as a FOBAB 2021 to go purchase.

Pours near black and opaque, with a brief quarter inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, coconut, cocoa, some chocolate. Like flavors- bourbon, vanilla, cocoa, coconut, malt, light chocolate. It’s a little sweet. Smooth, a little creamy, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated.

Really enjoyable. Strong but not dominant barrels, lots of vanilla, solid coconut. And it might be the only run that was canned instead of bottled, as an extra bonus…

750 mL bottle chilled to about 48F and poured into Pilsner glass

A: pours jet black and oily, surprising amount of foam formation, tan in color

S: touch of vanilla on the nose. Dominant note is coffee

T: straight up almond joy. Chocolate and coconut. Very sweet

M: thick but carries a decent amount of carb. Bit of a harsh alcohol burn at the back end, despite lacking barrel character

O: if you’re looking for pastry, this is quite good without being overwhelming. Wish there was a bit more barrel character, but definitely hits its mark

A - Pours a motor oil black with a two finger fizzy tan head. Light soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is caramel, vanilla, roasted malts and light coconut.

T - The taste is dark chocolate, caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut, roasted malts and finish with a nice kick of bourbon.

M - Full body with medium carbonation. Syrupy mouthfeel with a slick dry finish.

O - Really tasty BBA stout. The flavors are rich and decadent without being cloying. Surprisingly drinkable for being 13.5%.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with light amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and very faint dark chestnut brown + dark caramel colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense creamy foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a medium sized patch of very thin film covering a little more than 25% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of vanilla with an almost marshmallow-like sweetness quality to it as well over slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + dark + caramel malts with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of caramel + lactose sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of toasted coconut + toasted oak + bourbon.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + dark + caramel malts with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of caramel + lactose sweetness. That is followed by light to moderate flavors of toasted coconut + toasted oak + bourbon. Finally there are moderate to strong flavors of vanilla with an almost marshmallow-like sweetness quality. Very light amounts of roasty bitterness which is overtaken by the moderate lingering vanilla + roasty + caramel flavors.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Extremely smooth and creamy. Just a hint of alcohol warming in the finish as the beers come up to ambient temperature.

O: Easy to drink with extremely well hidden alcohol and a very pleasantly smooth and creamy mouthfeel. While this is a big beer (high ABV) and is a slow sipper, it is not overly sweet or cloying. Well balanced and does a great job highlighting the vanilla and toasted coconut with a definite bourbon barrel presence that is more subtle than many others.

Drank from a 1 pt 0.9 fl oz (500 ml) bottle purchased at Craft Beer Cellar, Belmont, MA
Served in a tulip

Oily, viscous, completely pitch black appearance. The ominous looking body was topped by a finger-tall, tight, frothy, saddle brown head that quickly dropped to a thin collar. A few dots of lacing tricked along the glass.

The aroma was solid initially and improved considerably after a few minutes. Rich and robust with loads of fragrant vanilla. There was a marshmallow-like quality too. Toasted coconut also came through strong. Caramel and toffee notes were apparent as well. Good dose of chocolate fudge. Touch of roastiness. Later, the vanilla intensified further.

The flavor profile was very similar to the nose but slightly punchier initially. Malty and robust up front. Caramel and roasted malts were noticeable. Vanilla came through strong in the center. Big toasted coconut notes too. Roasted malts reappeared on the back end and the finish. Bit of chocolate fudge as well. Touch of lingering booziness. The bourbon barrel presence was very subtle however.

Terrific full bodied mouthfeel. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained a finely beaded, moderate effervescence that fluffed up beautifully on the palate.

Beer Geek Toasties Shake is a fantastic bourbon barrel-aged, vanilla bean and toasted coconut-infused imperial stout. Although the price tag was steep and the barrel presence very subtle, I am still glad I sprung for a bottle. Amazingly, this beer can be easily procured at bottle shops from coast to coast.

Brownish black complete with a finger of brown foam. Smells decadent: huge vanilla and coconut atop a stout brimming with bourbon, oak, molasses, milk chocolate and a touch of roast. Taste explodes with waves of chocolate fudge with vanilla and coconut icing, with a boozy caramel reduction sauce, barrel is present but clearly in a supporting role with the roasted malt. A sticky, decadent and creamy feel, some warmth from the barrel, but generally lush and full with an appropriate amount of viscosity, velvet smooth. Perfect for a dessert

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like sweet cake frosting-like vanilla, toasted coconut, bourbon, dark chocolate, tangy roasted malt, and some light smoke.

This is super solid stuff - the coconut and vanilla are added well. They're not too strong, but they're also definitely there. The base beer has some solid bitter roast and lots of chocolate - it's not just pure liquid cake. There's a little bit of barrel - bitter oak and some sweet-ish bourbon flavor.

This is medium bodied, fairly creamy, with very little booziness.

This is a solid last beer to have before Dry January starts. See you in a month!

A 500ML bottle that looks tiny in my Shrek-sized hands. My wife’s pick tonight.

The pour is black, the nose well, the nose is sweetness, coconut, vanilla in that order. No hint of the barrel. Hopefully it’s coming to the tongue.

Toasties Shake is a five-sipper before I can crowbar my fingers away from the glass. This is Jack Bauer in a glass. Bold chunks of coconut added to scoops of vanilla swirl inside a sweet, deep malt base. Mid-palate barrel floods the senses: smooth, decadent, bourbon beside a stab of booze & dry, sharp oak. The finish ties all these things together beautifully. Full, bold, & I’m ardently wishing I could have taken the bottle solo. But I’m getting a good return on my investment!

This is spectacular, a top shelf example of a barrel aged genre that has become littered with beers from the mundane to the routinely good…to this. Just fantastic.
