Copenhagen 23/7 2021. 50 cl bottle from Mikkeller & Friends bottle shop, Torvehallerne, Kbh. K. Keith Shore drawing of a sports team in khaki with red balls and black hat. Could be a Wes Anderson movie poster in all its neat symmetry.

Pours opaque, dark brown with a mid-sized, beige head. Settles as thin layer of foam nicely covering the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma is intense with a dark, malty sweet odor mingling with sweet but potent alcohol. Brown sugar, honey and a bit of toffee. Sweet bourbon seems to be the liquor in dominance. Light touch of peat.

Light carbonation. Thick, viscous, soft, smooth, fat, almost flat texture.

Flavor is intense with a prominent sweetness followed by a modest sourness. Aftertaste is sweet with a potent, boozy undertone. Lingering. Finish is boozy and oily. Like a bourbon shot.

Pleasurable barrel boozer with enough potency to make the original residents in the barrels a bit nervous.

L: Jet black color, minimal head and lacing, no visible carbonation.

S: Chocolate, liqueur, alcohol, sweet, oak. Nice!

T: Chocolate, wine, bourbon, whiskey, oak. Extremely complex beer. Interesting combination.

F: Medium to full bodied, full bodied, tons of flavor.

O: One of the most complex beers I have ever tasted. This is a masterpiece.

Very dark blackish brown, no head save a light brown ring. Tons barrel make up the nose, oak and smoke omnipresent, bourbon leads most of the way but the mead does appear near the end with a fruity injection. Taste is similar, not smoky but instead earthy with slight caramel and roast. Almost has a whisper of brett on the very end of the sip. Starts big and earthy but by the end it is quite elevated with boozy edges, barrel forward the whole way. More interesting than good, and it is not bad by any means

You say Almanac and Firestone Walker and I’m in. Glad I Tavoured (is that a word?) this one, but it may have needed some aging. It’s an extremely barrel forward beer. Very hot. Strong bourbon notes on the smell and taste overpower everything else. Feel is great, though, because it’s not too heavy or oily or thick, which I feared based on the strong alcohol presence. Not a bad beer, but a one note beer.

Firestone Walker. Stout. Superstition barrels. Bourbon. Whiskey. Mikkeller. I’m a bit moist at the thought of this 16.9 oz. bottle slipping into my waffle hole.

The pour is dark black with minimal head. The nose is odd, roasty & fruity with the bourbonish stuff missing.

The Ocho is weird. This is at heart a stout blanketed in Superstition mead barrels. No whiskey, no bourbon, just a strangely fruity stout that’s so sharp it borders on a wild ale, mixed with a roast that seems out of place. The whole damn beer seems out of place. Glad I split this with my wife; couldn’t go the whole bottle.

Lots of good to great breweries involved in the making of this beer & it is far less than the sum of its participants. Mediocre.
