Bottle. Thick and oily, black color.

Kind of light flavored for 14%. A lot of barrel and fudge. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel. Warming and smooth. It’s good, but seemed lighter flavored that some others at this abv.

Glossy black with a dense tan head of moderate height that slowly settles to a velvety blanket.

The barrel sublimely weaves throughout the malt to immediately present on the nose as dark maple, peanut brittle and glassy crème brulee topping, which continues to develop into dark salted caramel and vanilla bean crème englaise. After all those layers unfold, a lightly splintery, peppery and wheaty Weller backstop presses pause on the decadent onslaught. I haven’t even tasted this beer yet, but it smells so fucking good I should be able to score it a 10 out of 5!

The palate is very mature yet rich, ultra complex and deep, and impossible to capture all in one sip. Charred oak combines with dark malts to create a dark salted chocolate fudge effect with notes of brownie crust and vanilla bean drizzle, even at times hinting at German chocolate cake with flakes of coconut.

The medium body has a round heft and a finely expanding carbonation that amplifies all of these flavors perfectly, coming into a warming semi-dry finish that exhales all kinds of dark charred oak, vanillins and some cocoa dusted dates.

This isn't just one of the best non-adjunct barrel aged stouts I've had this year, it's one of the best ever made.

If I lived closer I’d be a Mikkeller San Diego fan boy – I’ve had some great beers from them. Hoping this red-labelled beast in a 500ML bottle is another.

The pour is dark night & even a hard pour brings only a fizzy little head. Hefty bourbon nose backed by brownies, oak, char, light smoke. And big rappel malts. Mmmm.

The Last O.G. – Trey is aptly named. Bourbon & heat are stamped all over this brew i.e. my first sip of BCS circa 2008, though the bourbon is softer, gentler, with (dare I say) a slight wheatiness. Probably my imagination. Mid-palate brings the oak, the brownie, slowly building booziness, slight nuttiness & vanilla that gathers & blasts through the finish. Thick thick. I have no problem with this bottle size. 600ML would be better.

Well hell. I’ve had a few straight-up BA stouts from the old school lately & it leaves me thinking that as much as I like them, brewers can holster their coconut & cocoa nibs & ferret poo for a while. Let’s go back to basics, if you can handle it well. Excellent beer that’s borderline elite.

Pitch black body with a brown collar. Nose has that classic barrel aged RIS aroma bouquet: bourbon, robust malt, smoke, dark chocolate fudge, leather, rustic oak, dried dark fruit, black strap molasses, and earth. Taste has gentle wheat from the barrel, a big caramel center to the malts, molasses grows as it warms, the earthy smoke and char is a great counterbalance. Feel is warm, chewy, viscous, barrel forward, very well balanced with plenty of robust and earthy malt textures. Wonderful RIS, I know people have been down on mikkeller, including me, but they have been doing some great stuff this year
