Although my review may seem a little harsh, I have rated this beer as a beer suited to asian food, which is what Mikkeller was apparently aiming for. To me, this beer tasted like, looked like, and smelled like an ESB. Anyone who has had an ESB with South East Asian food will know the two do not gel nicely. I got no aromas of star anise whatsoever and just the slightest (tiniest) hint of orange. What I did get was caramel, toffee malt and zero hop or spice aromatics. As an ESB or similar style, malt based beer, it's not bad; but as an accompaniment to Asian food, it is a disappointing fail. A match for Asian food is a very ballsy call. You have to be more specific as to what kind of Asian food it suits. I had Vietnamese and it was an absolute tragic clash. Sorry. Mikkller has never missed the mark by so much. Back to the drawing board.

This is the winter version of the other Dim Sum beer i have reviewed and it comes with a totally different label on it this time its pretty much like a photo of some chinese latterns and on the top label and on the the back label it states that this is"brewed especially for winter with orange and star anise by MIKKELLER" sounds interesting so anyway it pours a nice copper hue with decent carbonation that leaves a two finger frothy head that stays around for abit, the aroma is definately a mix of orange and liquorice/aniseed but both aromas are nicely combined even though im not the biggest fan of liqourice,it has a nice medium bodied mouthfeel and the taste is definately different i get a hit of aniseed first up followed by some caramel malts and it finishes with a dry orange tinge its definately an out there brew that wouldnt be for everybody and ill finish this easily but i wouldnt rush out to buy it again and personally prefer the summer Dim Sum Beer.
