such a weird one, had to get into it. imperial stout with craisins, raisins, coffee, and peanut, a lot of interesting things, and it manifests it self sort of breakfast like to me, not just because of the coffee, which might be the boldest of the added ingredients, but also because the craisins and raisins and nuts sort of give it a granola vibe, especially with a bit of residual malt sweetness in the mix here. not a lot of head from the tap, and it looks a little thin for what it is, some acidity from the cranberry part perhaps breaking it down a little, but i like the tang. i get the tartness more than the actual taste of the craisin in the flavor, and i think the peanut is weird with the light acidity, maybe the java adds some of that too, but the peanut clashes with it for me, and it has a sort of roasty but almost powdered vibe, not as oily and rich as i want it to be if its going to be here, and in the end it sort of has a peanut butter and jelly vibe, bread and all. the base stout might not be one of their most complex either, but its simplicity and relative lightness lends itself to the mission here. i think the raisins are critical here, both for flavor in the absence of more malt depth, and for sweetness to balance. the booze is only mild to me here, and this ends up rather unique but not overly polished. neat to get to try some new weird ones at the san francisco location last week!
