a lovely baltic porter here, one of my favorites we had from the london brewpub, quite sturdy as they go, not overly complex, but nuanced in an appealing, almost addicting way. nice dark pour to this, short of black but deep brown, short tan headed, and not overly viscous in appearance to the body is somewhat surprising when i drink the first sip. there is a lot of roast in the aroma and flavor here, some real bitterness emerging from it, a ton of coffee character too, but over extracted espresso and high end low acidity pour over warmth, hints of charcoal, smoke, and bitter baking chocolate are also present in this sector. in the middle hints of raisin and pipe tobacco, but a notable absence of sweetness which i like, i think it leaves space for the lager yeast to be appreciated. the finish has faint alcohol to it, some char, and a richer chocolate component to balance the bitterness, delicious and drinkable for what it is. fuller bodied but also well carbonated, palate coating but in a pleasing way, and very very dry. nothing radical about this, but a pretty textbook example of the style, professionally done.
