1Qt. 1.8Fl. Oz. bottle. Swing top. Label has best by date of '20 06 2025'.
Mostly clear, amber brown colored body. One finger of fine bubble, beige colored head, which persists as a creamy cap and ring. Leaves behind a few small spots and short strings of lacing.
Aroma is slightly sour, lots of baked bread and nuts.
Taste is honey/caramel sweet, with toasted grain flavors that begin with baked bread and later on there is more nuttiness. A sour yeast flavor intrudes in late. Aftertaste is devoid of sweetness.
Medium mouthfeel. Smooth texture. Very good carbonation.
Beautiful body color and poured head. Lager yeast and malty.

Aroma is very heady and thick with yeast, cola, molasses. Mouthfeel is rather thin and leaves little in the way of aftertaste other than some cola and esters. Overall the body tastes strongly of cola, almost like actual soda, with some malt and spice on the side, and a whole lot of yeasty esters. Refreshing and simple but not very outstanding.

Bought at Binnys Lincoln Park. Not too surprising because Chicagoland claims to have more Lithuanians outside of Lithuania. While UnTappd classifies this as a Dark Lager, BA's classification is more accurate. This reminds me of dunkels, malty and bready. Good paired with light lunch food. I thought the pop-top a good idea for a large bottle as it preserved better on the second day for lunch again. Enjoyable to malt-heads like me on a rainy day. But, the typical American palate will want more hops.
I'd like to write a proper micro-review of BDB/UAB Fulgor, but I could not find the webpage and, besides, Lithuanian is impenetrable to me. I do know that UAB is Lithuania's largest brewer and is now mostly owned by Carlsberg. So, I guess, Kanapinis and BDB is a micro brand of theirs. Also, I gather from UnTappd's description that BDB is traditional and preserves/practices the technique of open fermentation. This micro's town seems sort of nowhere, midway between the population centers of Vilnius and Riga. So, it is difficult to speculate about their market. But this Dunkel did make it to Chicago and I give them pretty good Overall Hugs for that... and sticking to tradition.

Unfiltered dark lager, wort extract 12%.
Pours copper-brown cloudy beer with bubbly tan head, reducing rapidly to a ring of froth. Sweet nose of caramel, slightly fruity, a bit malty. Taste is close to aroma, but with harsh yeasty note. It worsenes the common impression and drinkability. I'd rather drink something more smooth. Well, I forgot to say it's quite bready in the finish.
