On tap @ the Harrisburg location on 7/17/09. Served in an over sized mug. Originally brewed at the Gettysburg ABC.
Pours a strawberry pink (yes you heard that right), with a finger of tight straight-up pink head. This almost looks like cotton candy sitting on top of it. Retains with a real rich look to it, staying creamy and slathering the sides of the mug with rings of frothy lacing. Quite the punk look here!. The aroma is floral and fairly tart with berry character, and a lightly sugary wheat sweetness to it that glides underneath.
The taste is almost completely berry flavor, and very tart berry flavor at that! Dough and sugars sit underneath, lending this a real Sweet Tart flavor. A tingle of hops pulls up the back and this finishes dry...and did I mention tart? The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a very sharp and prickly carbonation to it that falls right in line with the extremely tart flavor of this. There is a definite crispness to this and for the most part, this actually drank a lot better than I thought that it was going to.
Jeez, how many times did I say tart in this review? The blackberries definitely brought the goods, if this is your sort of thing that is. This is definitely a pretty one-sided beer, with more berries than wheat but all in all, I liked this. One more time....tart and crisp (and pink!), this worked as a refreshing summertime quaff for me.
