Sour Beer Hunter (2013)

February 8th, 2015 - Honoring the late and great Jackson, Pizza Port's Sour Ale is the bastard child of a sour brew and a cabernet sauvignon. Beautifully blonde with a hazy clarity, the nose is impeccably sour and sweet. There's a touch of marshmallow sweetness too, and a fine grain bill, wheatier than it is malty. Less sweet on the tongue, the palate is nonetheless extremely bubbly. It could be deeper, but remains quite refreshing. With a little warmth and time, the flavor adopts some of the marshmallow touch from the aroma, but only in the aftertaste. All the same, it is a moderately engaging beer, and would no doubt be relished by the great Hunter himself.
