This pours from the can a sunny tan color. Great foaming. Slight chill haze, not overly evident. I was hoping for more aroma. It's there but muted. Juicy papaya and pineapple give it a pleasing fruity character. Much more flavorful than the aroma suggests, with the fruit salad flavors coming across clearly.

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Beer Nerd 12-oz. tulip
From: Bine & Vine Bottle Shop in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $3.59 (because of 10 percent off for a variety 6-pack)
Purchased: Aug. 17, 2018
Consumed: Aug. 19, 2018
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Misc.: Canned on Aug. 7, 2018
Picked this up on a trip to Bine & Vine, along with five others for the 10 percent off. I couldn’t figure out if this beer was just Artifex or Artifex and Pizza Port. Apparently it was a collaboration beer back in the day, but there was no mention of Pizza Port on the can. NOTE: Emailed Artifex and they said this version was just them. Anyway, back of the can called it double dry-hopped with Cascade, Simcoe, Mosaic and Nelson. Grain was 2-Row, Carahell, Rye & Carafoam. Yeast was London III. Wasn’t quite sure what kind of beer it would be (IPA or New England Style) going in.
Poured a bright golden hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of off-white rocky-to-frothy head. Could see some bubble streams creeping up along the sides of the glass. Outstanding sporadic lacing. Very good lacing. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled a mix of Nelson and Mosaic for hops initially. Also melon, orange, tangerine, apricot, white grapefruit, floral, perfume, berry vine, herbal, pine, stone fruit and mango. More orange and tangerine notes from the can with some Simcoe and grain coming through as well. (Smell - 3.75)
Tasted a little better than the nose. Got Nelson and Mosaic up front, and lingering spicy Simcoe in the back. Also floral, juicy tangerine, melon, apricot, grapefruit, pineapple, herbal, white grape, perfume, stone fruit, peach and pine. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was a really good beer overall. Outstanding really. Can’t wait to have it again. (Overall - 4.00)
