Collaboration with Stone Brewing

Yes, time often seems like it goes way too fast. Yet relax with a friend over a great beer and for a brief moment we can slow it down to proper speed…and special moments like the time the very first ever keg of Stone was tapped at Pizza Port Solana Beach on a warm late July evening in 1996 become fixed as a timeless memory. Brewing & enjoying BFF together is the culmination of many countless shared memories and continuous good times. Cheers to these moments, each other and to being Beer Friends Forever!

Brewed in collaboration with our Beer Buddies at Stone Brewing, this medium-bodied IPA has strong aromas of citrus with notes of lychee and passion fruit. The tropical fruit character is complimented by a soft, balanced grain bill and classic bitter notes of resin and pine on the finish. Cheers to Beer Friends Forever!

Pours a clear golden amber. Light and sudsy mouthful— aromatic and inviting. Smells of green melon and passion fruit. Pleasing sweet note to go with the fruit. Modest but distinct bitter edge. Such an art to get that balance right. This almost makes up for Modern Times downgrading their former seasonal star, Booming Rollers. Fruit, suds, aroma, that tang. I’m grateful to Pizza Port for keeping up the tradition of drinkable, hoppy brews.

Found this in the back of the walk in cooler at Albertsons. Like the old days peering into the back of coolers in corner liquor stores in Chicago in hope of something weird, like a can of Zodiac Malt Liquor. From the 16 oz can dated 07/22/22.

I don’t know. California stuff. That’s what this beer is. Mickey lighting up his favorite strain of kush, an Orange County housewife taking her Zoloft with her favorite cold pressed juice, and a dude in a Land Rover not using his turn signal as he’s on his way to pick up his Viagra prescription. Just like that stuff is prime SoCal, so is this offering from Pizza Port and Stone. It’s ripe, it’s tropical, and it’s clean - it’s pure WEST COAST. Beautiful sunshine and lighting up a J is not a crime. California love, baby. This is nothing but California love.

Second iteration perhaps of the BFF from Port/Stone. Utopia is behind us.

16 oz. single poured into a snifter glass. Pours a clear deep straw with a longer than usual cap of foam. More wheat and more onion on the nose. What do you call the old Swami's when you brew it before the onion hops existed? Taste follows. Full bodied feel as an anti Swami. All good. Aroma is all onion/garlic/shallot. Dank free zone here, just beware.

Disappointed in the short longevity of the head and the lack of lacing. Taste is the highlight. Some slight tropical overtones that are hard to pin down but a nice clean, hoppy IPA that is not excessively bitter, but hoppy enough that you know it is a WC IPA .. Overall a pretty good WCIPA IPA although perhaps not among the best.

Canned 06/29/22, so as fresh as it gets. Picked up a 6er from their Carlsbad Village spot, first visit. Great story behind this beer and good to see some SoCal brewing institutions get together for a collab. This is a classic WC IPA with some massive hop flavor and clean feel and finish. Easy drinking and a steal at $15 for six tall boys.
