rye based ipa on the edge of being a double, really solid and one of the fresher beers ive had from these guys. the rye malt adds a lot, and i think it sets up the spicy side of the hop profile real well, this is bold and flavorful, hazy but bright, pale orange, actually kind of looks like orange juice, short and airy white head resting on top. the aroma is good, citra hops for sure, subtle pineapple and mandarin orange from the can, light coconut and lemongrass, and just a little vegetal dankness, not green and burning, but highly saturated as the hops go, starchy dry grain underneath and the rye coming through, smells more fresh than anything else hoppy ive had from them in idaho so far. the flavor is cool, and if this is citra by itself its rather layered, some tropical candy to it even though this is dryish overall, meyer lemon and lemon curd, and green melon and its rind. some gin-like botanical character, green grape too, and finally some decent bitterness for a hazy, stays oily and a touch harsh on the palate for a few minutes after the swallow, and shows its alcohol a little bit too, but overall this is successful, i like what the rye brings, i like the punchy intensity of the hops, and i think its balanced in a modern way, assertive but smooth too. solid, distinctive even, quite well done, in the top handful of voodoo beers ive had to date...

Opaque pale maize with a tall white foam head that slowly settles to a fuzzy collar leaving spongy lacing. The haze remains fully suspended uniformly throughout a longer than usual session, and the head retains well too.

Oh mama, that's tasty. I didn't think at first that the rye was much of a differentiating factor, as it starts off with the thick fluffy feel of a typical high quality NEIPA delivering notes of shortbread malt, Orange Julius and vanilla cream notes. But then the cottony finish brings contrasting yet mild peppery and cannabic dankness, and in there it's got a really nice spice I didn't expect. As I sit with it, I also detect notes of pineapple juice.

I didn't expect any of this, but it's easily the best Voodoo NEIPA I've had. Glad I got a 4pack.
