Bottled on 3/5/2020; consumed on 1/7/2023

Pours a jet-black body topped with slightly over a finger of fluffy, pale beige foam; solid head retention leaves a temporary few paper-thin islands of cap, a large, richly creamy collar, and minimal-no lacing holding to the walls of the glass.

Aromas of rich milk chocolate and a lush oak prickle feed into a smoky layer trending to a dark fruit umami, leaving malt char lingering to accents of decadent chocolate ganache over time.

Taste opens to notes of chocolate ganache against a pang of smoke/char soon eased with cacao nibs and a burgeoning heavy oak presence; tinges of bourbon essence fade through the back end into burnt coffee undertones as flambéed orange and cocoa char are left to meander through the finish.

Mouthfeel shows a medium body and a moderate-low carbonation, leaving slick textures with a warmth intertwined as a subtly bitter prickle over the mid-palate sees a char lingering into the back end into a soft, semi-clean finish.

Chocolate decadence cedes to roasty char and inherent barrel inflection softened delicately with age; a stellar, rounded display of bittering malt and the multitude of sweeter layers ascending the height of the Black Magick line.

Drinking this back to back with orange wax b2. I've had before but wanted to compare one that did wow me to one that didn't to make sure I'm not whack.

Well. This is quite fucking good and better than I remember it. Nowhere near as sweet as orange b2. A little more dry oak. Still a quite large mouthfeel but not mind blowing like the aforementioned.

Blantons and French oak were a joke. Wild turkey can absolutely fuck off and was painful to finish. EC was nice. Purple was stellar. Both orange are world class. I need to revisit white. Recollection was HEAVILY carbed and lack luster.

Trade for these like you're gambling my frenns.

Definitely up there with the best magicks. I revisited purple last week and I gotta say I'm enjoying this one more.

Pours new moon black with a fingers of khaki foam after a half pour from a 12oz bottle. Aroma is roasty, toasty, caramely, and earthy malts. Real heavy emphasis on the latter two as this beer is warm. Light bourbon seeps through, adding some hot steam to the back of the nose. Flavor profile is roasty, toasty, and caramely malts that transition oh-so smoothly into sweet bourbon notes. Some char around the edges singes the edges, but not enough to drive it into bitter. It's got mellow heat on the back, not enough for a house fire, just a (safe) candle burning at the back of each sip. Part of that heat is thanks to bourbon, which kicks in around the mid-way point, growing gradually stronger towards the finish. Bourbon never takes over the taste, but certainly makes its presence known. Mouth feel is thick with a lumpy, gritty texture. It's full and chewy. Overall, a dense imperial stout that uses some wheated bourbon to its benefit. It's got depth, grit, char, and booze, without coming off too hot or strong.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 12oz bottle.

Stark 8 ball black with a short blanket of mocha micropearls dying to a thin chain.

Assertively spicy pepperiness--much more than I expected with the treatment, but in a deliciously surprising way--works in concert with wonderful maple bourbon qualities. Its solid char delectably emulates mocha, but also brings hints of hickory and smoked almond, before subsiding into a vanilla bean ice cream exhale.

Fairly thick, the medium body is filled by a firm but expanding carbonation before coming to a warming yet tingly swallow that's lightly sticky on the lips. Over time, the carbonation becomes somewhat zippy, mitigating any thickness to the point of making it absurdly drinkable for a Black Magick. It's practically chuggable.

Easily, and by far, the best Black Magick I've had.

Best BM since Red Wax IMO. Nice carb, aroma consist of faint smokiness, fudge/chocolate, roasted malts, and subtle coffee. Taste follows pretty closely. Medium full body.
