Bottled on 11/17/2021; consumed on 6/12/2023
Pours a silky, motor-oil black body topped with a slowly forming ringer of pale mocha foam; decent head retention fades to a paper-thin fuzz of cap, a larger, richer collar, and a modest spattering of taut, webby lacing spread around the walls of the glass.
Aromas of leather and pipe tobacco open to an ashy char, with black cherry esters filtering through touches of raw cacao nibs and a progressive char over time.
Taste brings dark chocolate and a hint of black cherry, as lingering leather meshes with ample roast over the mid-palate into a milk chocolate tinge and charry barrel finish.
Mouthfeel shows a medium-light body and a lower-end carbonation, phasing to a silky air of roast prickling the mid-palate as a pillowy, creamier leaning eases to a lighter back end, where semi-bitterness and a mild stickiness contrasts an overarching dryness through the finish.
A cohesive, upper echelon offering though lacking the distinction of character found in the highest tiers of the series; a largely quintessential Black Magick.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter. pours a dense black with a thin, chocolate mocha foam head that forms into a thick collar around the glass. some mocha swirls remain here and there. aromas of bourbon, oak, tobacco, leather, slight chocolate and vanilla. taste is similar with a heavy whiskey sting as well as the tobacco and leather. more subtle notes of chocolate and vanilla as it nears room temperature. thick, sturdy mouthfeel. love the carbonation (or lack thereof) on this one. excellent no adjunct barrel-aged imperial stout. no frills here: bourbon barrel heat, char, tobacco, leather, and oak lead the way. it mellows out as it warms and opens up to a very smooth, almost chocolatey stout but everything else going on reminds you it’s a sipper. very much enjoyed this.

Dark brown/black oily appearance with a tan head that recedes slowly to a collar, low retention and lacing. Bourbon, oak, chocolate, leather, tobacco, nut. Thick body, moderate carbonation.

A mildly viscous used motor oil black pour builds a moderate mocha froth that slowly settles to a creamy quarter pipe but sparse film.
Smell contains less espresso yet more milk chocolate and nutty wood characteristics than often found in Black Magick variants, all accented here by a touch of whiskey spice, as well as some surprising hints of maple and cola.
Fairly thick and soft but with a fine, nearly crisp fizz, the palate starts at the cola where the nose left us off from, which readily transitions into dark fruit. That is quickly softened by the nutty woodiness, which develops more complexity as time goes on, contrasting with an emerging dark chocolate tang before the softly semi-dry and lightly numbing finish.
