Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Perennial sniffer. Pours a thick and shiny black with virtually no head save for a tiny bit of dark brown foam swirls that quickly fade away. Bourbon and chocolate up front on the nose with oak and light dark fruits in the background. Taste follows. Everything is well integrated between beer and barrel. Very balanced but strong flavors. Thick mouthfeel. A little rush of carbonation to the finish along with dry oak. This is damn tasty. Sturdy and seems built to last even now at about 18 months old in the bottle.

The pour may be the most viscous of this hybrid animal series so far. It's full on tar black, perhaps with some fine, burnt brown edges, under the thinnest layer of extremely miniature bubbles appearing very dark brown that stealthily get reabsorbed back into the black void the very moment you look away.

Dolk is also one of the smokier of these four wooden labeled beers. Here, it's kind of like coal ash, while nearing an aphotic level of acid in taste, though the nose is luscious of vanilla creme englaise characteristics. Subsequent sips bring crunchy toffee cake through a crazy velvety body that balances that with a touch of surprisingly mild barrel char.

However, the smokiness persists here even more than most BRC, certainly dragging it a little further below the level that Frig, Girat, and especially Berk achieved.
