12oz bottle into my Three Floyd's glass. It poured a slightly hazy amber color with a half inch, frothy white head filling the top of the glass.

The aroma has some moderately sweet, pale, grainy malts to it. Just a bit of citrusy, fruity hops come through as well. Could have used a little more hop presence for an APA to overshadow the pale, sweet malts a little more. At least for my tastes in the style.

The taste also shows a lot of the sweeter, pale malts to it throughout the beer. I get a little fruity hoppiness to it up front with a moderate, dry, grapefruit like bitterness coming out in the finish.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with carbonation being moderate. Overall it wasn't a bad beer, but didn't stand out in the style either. It could have used a little more hoppiness to help balance out some of the malt sweetness a little more. Decent beer overall.

12 oz bottle, thanks Jeff.

Pours a slightly hazed, sickly straw golden color with steady carbonation supporting a massive, dense fizzy cream colored head.

Aroma is intensely lemony and mildly grassy.

Flavor is less offensive than the aroma and appearance suggest, but still mostly forgettable. Strong bready and grain body with light caramel malt sweetness hides underneath a pungent lemon zest.

Medium bodied with low carbonation; finish is very dry and tangy.

A forgettable APA, but there isn't anything toooo wrong here and this makes for a worthy WV tick.

Thanks boatshoes for the bottle. (I think.) You the man! (Now THAT I know.)

A: Poured into a New Belgium tulip a slightly hazy golden orange. Body looks nice, but little to no head even on an aggressive pour. What little is there leaves a very thin ring.

S: Grainy. Light citrus hops. Not a whole lot going on.

T/M: Pleasant enough, but nothing special. Grain, especially in the finish. Some orange-y hops. Finish is bitter and slightly astringent. I'm trying to figure out more to say, but it's thoroughly middle-of-the-road. Mouthfeel is thin, with pretty low carbonation for the style.

D: A thoroughly average pale ale. I'd go for it in a West Virginia watering hole, but it's not really a beer to show off to your friends.

Bottle shared by Thorpe429. Thanks Mike!

The beer appears transparent and light in orange in color. The head is approximately a half inch thick and leaves some decent lacing in its wake. The aroma has a subtle hop presence with a strange scent emanating from the beer. Uh oh. The flavor is mediocre, with very muted hop and citrus. Overall the beer just tastes a bit off kilter. The finish is rather dry, and leaves an unpleasant vegetal taste on the palate. Not my bag, baby.

Bottle picked up at Total Wine in Alexandria. Served in a Bruery tulip.

Pours a moderate copper color with a thin white head that dissipates too quickly and leaves behind only a tad bit of lacing. The nose is faintly reminiscent of the fact that at one point someone might have considered adding a hop cone or two to it. In honesty, there is a very, very, very (enough of those) faint presence of light citrus and herbal hops. Malt is there in a bready form, not really lending anything on its own. The taste echoes the nose, and not in a good way. Finish is ever so slightly dry with moderate carbonation. Not something I would have again.

Bottle gifted by Thorpe429. Thanks buddy. This beer is like a light ale, if such a thing existed. I had this rather late in the evening of heavy drinking, I thought it was unremarkable but unoffensive.

Beer is light amber with a diffuse head of nothing and no lacing, low carbonation.

Aroma is hoppy and dry with minimal malt and some grain.

Beer is thin and watery with some hop flavors, mild graininess on the finish, and overall a bland mouthfeel. The beer is uninteresting. I doubt I'd have it again unless it were the only thing at a party I wanted to get a buzz at.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 16oz Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance: Clear bright golden color with a large white head that dissipates at an average rate and leaves behind some rings and spots of lace.

Smell: Citrus alongside some pine and a bit of earthiness, with a biscuity note.

Taste: Starts of with a bit of an orange/lemon flavor with a bitterness that gets into the back of the throat, then rounds out to be a bit bready. The finish is earthy, before yielding to some more citrus notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with light to medium carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

Drinkability: Another solid offering from Mountaineer and a good pale ale overall. This beer is not the best example of its style, but isn't too far short.

Thanks to Santa Adam for the brew. I poured this brew into a Sam Adams pint glass and it produced a two finger white head that lasted the length of the brew. The body was a clear golden yellow in color. Aromas of bread yeast and malts with a light hop finish. You get the same from the taste. It was nice and crisp in the mouth with ample hops for a pale ale. This was an enjoyable pale to drink and I would have loved to drink a few of these I am beginning to really like this brewery.

Poured into a pint glass on 12-12-10

A - Pours a clear golden yellow with an inch of foam that leaves spotty lacing

S - light mix of sweet citrus and piney hops

T - Taste is very sweet, i'm picking up mostly pear, citrus and a piney finish. Definitely sweeter than most pale ales. Unique flavor in my opinion.

M/D - Light to medium bodied, with a crisp carbonation, and a slightly bitter finish. Its easy to drink, though the sweetness makes me not want to have more than one or two.

Pours a clear pale yellow color with a finger of soapy white head that fades to a thing layer across the top.

Aroma is of sweet dough and yeast with minimal citrusy hops in the background. Not as hoppy as I prefer, but it's pleasant nonetheless.

Taste is very sweet up front, some breads again and hints of citrus. Finishes with a faint resin bitterness. Honestly, it reminds me more of a Kolsch than an APA with the exception of the slight bitterness in the finish.

Lots of prickly carbonation in the mouthfeel and it's light in body. Goes down smooth overall and would be a nice refreshing choice on a hot summer day.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams Boston Lager glass.

Appearance: Pours a pale golden color with a large, frothy head that dissipates quickly and leaves some spotty lacing.

Smell: Smells strongly of citrus and floral hops, definitely of a West Coast variety.

Taste: Definitely a hop-dominant pale ale. Strong spicy and citrus hops dominate tempered only by a slight malty sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and drying.

Drinkability: A decent APA. Certainly not the best out there but if you're looking for a hoppy APA from a small-time brewery, this certainly fits the bill.

Appearance: clear orange in color with a 1/2" head. Some spots of lace stick tot he glass.

Smell: orange citrus and a hint of fruit sweetness is all you can detect with the nose.

Taste: caramel, orange, pear sweetness, and a floral hop bitterness create a mild flavored APA.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Crisp to start, less crisp to finish. Pretty short aftertaste here.

Drinkability: this mildly refreshing beer is easy to drink but won't blow you away.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a standard pint.

A: Medium golden color. Pours about a 1 and a half finger bubby white head. Settles pretty quickly leaving a foamy blanket on your brew to keep it cozy. Some sparse lacing remains.

S: Pine, hint of orange citrus, and a slight indistinguishable sweet note.

T: Lightly malted, very piny. Kind of semi bitter, and a little semi sweet... not like cloying sweet, but just an interesting slight counterbalance sweet.

M: Light body, bitter palette, dry finish.

D: Good however you choose to drink it.

Atmosphere is pretty solid. Nice appearance.... nothing great, but a nice rich golden color and a part bubbly / part foamy head. Nose is really good. Hard for me to place the components, but a very nice balance. Flavor is the same... not transcendental, but very full-flavored and well balanced. Overall, this is a good quaff.

appearance: slightly golden yellow with faint cloudiness, average carbonation

smell: mild scent of hops, no other distinguishable aromas

taste: mild clean taste througout the start and middle, hoppy taste does not become apparent until the finish, undertone is clean and does not contain any undertones

drinkability: a basic pale ale, nothing outstanding, but very drinkable and has just enough flavor to make it worth your while

Appearance - a copper amber color, light head on the top

Smell - smells like a normal pale ale with a hint of citrus

Taste - pretty disappointing, has a kind of metallic aftertaste, better than a generic pale ale from Bud or Miller, but not on the same level as most smaller breweries

Mouthful - evenly balanced, good

Drinkability - if you like pale ales and you don't want to drink horrible can beer, then it might be a possibility, though i'd recommend getting something better

First time I have ever had anything by Mountaineer Brewing Company... from West Virginia.

A- Medium to dark golden color. Small white head. Minimal lacing.

S- Tried to pinpoint that smell...couldn't...checked other reviews for help...seems I'm not the only one. Some citrus added to the mystery smell.

T- Flower hoppy, more citrus.

M- Crisp. Medium mouthfeel, some "tongue tingles"

D/O- Per it's style, drinkability is high. If given a choice though, I may reach for a different APA 6 pack.

a: bone white head over a bright golden body falls back to a nice ring

s: subtly resinous tropical hop nose - not bad - over a standard pale malt body, also a weird aroma - not sure whether to call it rotten pineapple or moldy potatoes, perhaps oats out of place in such a light ale?, nothing particularly special here, but it seems to be balanced and well constructed

m: carbonation light-medium, lighter body, a little thin

t: plain pale malt structure, mild citrus juice hops, the same strange aroma comes through a little less here on the tongue - but it's still present, okay

d: not bad I suppose
