Le Trou Du Diable

750 mL bottle at Hill Farmstead. Lightly hazy orange. Clear until a little yeast crept in. Smells of lots of white wine and a hefty oak presence. Tastes of some lemon up front. White wine takes over and lends a little tartness. Oak and vanilla and barrel give it a deeper complexion. Not sure what the grain bill is, but it distinctly not grainy and grassy. Aftertaste is fruity yeastiness. Medium body. Heavily dominated by barrel, which isn't bad, but perhaps masks the saison beneath.

 

 

This was poured for me onsite at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro Bend, VT.

This one pours a slightly dull and hazed orange, with a moderately big and fluffy head, and lots of lacing.

This smells super funky, lots of "horse blanket," a little cheesy, with a nice floral/grassy aroma as well.

This was a really pleasant surprise. It's got a really intense funk here- hay-like, and full of barnyard tastes, with some blue cheesiness, grassy sharpness, lemon acidity, and a tiny hint of oak. This is wonderful- and was completely off of my radar.

This one has a soft mouthfeel, with a fairly typical level of carbonation.

This is a very fun beer from a fairly underrated brewery.

750ml bottle poured into a Skrip's Big Day tulip.

A~ cloudy orange/yellow with a nice head and no lacing

S~ like a fruit salad of brett! a little lemon and some black pepper as well.

T~ follows the nose with way more brett hay funk here and a little oaky vanilla. all held together by some grainy malt.

M~ strage feel... kind of thick with silky carb.

O~ really glad i got to try this Hill Farmstead collab. especially after trying a few of Le Trou Du Diable brews at FoFA this year! they're doing great things, seek them out!

Bottle: Poured a hazy pale yellow color ale with a nice pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some light grainy notes is enjoyable. Taste is a good mix between some light grainy notes with some tart notes and light green apple notes are also noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Doesn’t have the depth I was expecting but still an enjoyable (gluten-free) tart saison.
