330ml bottle/£2.95 (ouch), Garcia's Spanish deli, Portobello Road, London W11. BB: 05-2021. When I bought this I assumed it would be Spanish, so I was surprised to later find at home that it is Mexican. Home of Sol, Dos Equis and so on, but you never know... I'm also surprised to be writing only the 2nd review of this sat here in London!

L- A pretty solid amber colour, crystal clear, pours with 2mm head that clears to a patch within a few seconds.
S- A sort of doughy bread smell. In fact it's also the kind of smell uncooked pastry has.
T- Dry, and into some bitter hopping; BUT there is something here that stands out and seems out of place. I'm unable to ID it, but it's the same kind of 'not quite right' you get with an adjunct. Note though lable is clear '100% malted barley'.
F- It has some richness and body for a quite lowly 4.6%, it would support a higher ABV% and perhaps work better for it too.
O- It's a bit of a confusing recipe to me. 4.6% is relatively light, yet the body/feel is heavier/richer than most lagers. There isn't much character clearly discernible in the flavour except one subtle element that stands out as not so great. So sadly despite having being shipped thousands of miles I shan't be buying any more of this one.

4.6% ABV. Brown glass 12 fl oz bottle. "100% Malta." "Lager." 17 IBU. 11 degrees Plato O.G.

Drinks malty and a little stale/dirty (an attribute I've noticed in many Mexican lagers, but which might just be because they're imported and sit on shelves). Caramel malts give it a darker colour and more pronounced sweetness, but there isn't adequate hop flavour to balance them out (why they didn't just stick to paler malts is beyond me).

Drinkable but forgettable fare, and easily the worst Mexican lager I've had in a great while, if only because it isn't refreshing at all. I'd sooner have a Pacifico, and maybe even a Corona...
