I tried this at the Roanoke, VA location. It poured a clear amber with thin white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had hints of malt. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with malt base and slight bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a good beer.

12 oz bottle poured into a stemmed glass. Dark amber color. A nice, balanced Vienna style lager. I've always enjoyed this beer, had it on tap at an old restaurant I used to work ask. Always found it smooth, and can easily throw back a few of these.

12oz bottle into a shaker pint.

A: Pours a clear copper/amber with 1/2" off white head that recedes pretty quickly. Retention & lacing are nonexistent.

S: Mild bready notes with a bit of malty/crackery sweetness. Simple but enjoyable.

T: Off-sweet cracker/caramel up front. Perfectly subtle hop bitterness counteracts through the mid-palate. Finishes slightly metallic.

M: Moderate carb & actually a lighter, crisper (than typical for the style) body make for a fairly refreshing experience.

O: Nothing earth-shattering, but it makes for a nice sipper on a lazy day.

Pours amber against my white walls, but orange with golden edges against my review screen. Initial 3 1/2 finger off white head that dissipates very quickly showing fleeting chunkiness and sticky lacing.

Aroma of light sweet malt, but the hops dominate. Grassy with peppery spice. and some over ripe citrus. A hint of lemon.

Familiar taste of sweet toasted malt. Hops are more subdued here, Showing up mainly in the lasting bitter aspect and in light tart citrus.

Medium bodied with peppery carbonation and a descent burn in the throat.

Another pleasant offering from Starr Hill. Nothing spectacular, but well rounded and tasty. I would be happy to try it again.

A- a deep rich clear amber with a creamy white head. HEad has good retention but there is little lacing.

S- some mild biscuit notes and earthy hops

T- some mild bready malt is dominated by the earthy hops

M- a little thinner, given it's fuller-appearing body

O- not terrible, but not overwhelming, either. Middle of the road.

P-Westy's Beer Distributor variety pack

A- cloudy orange color with poor head and poor lacing. Looks like a orange cream ale, if that make sense.

S- bready malts and lemon grass. nothing major but not a bad nose.

F- the lemon grass comes through strong in the flavor. the bready malts are on the back end. It is like eating the mash almost. not all the great for a lager

M- acidic and sour in the mouth but gets smoother as it goes down. I almost get a metallic flavor as well like chrome.

O- average lager. I think yuengling is a better bang for your buck here but this is better than BMC brews.

12 oz. bottle poured into a tulip.

A: Poured a medium amber with a large white head that fades to decent lacing.

S: Very bready with a lot of grainy notes and just a hint of citrus. Not a ton going on with the aroma.

T: Up front with bread, mild grass and bitterness but a lot of malt...bready like you'd expect in the style with some caramel sweetness.

M: Medium bodied and fairly crisp. An easy drinking lager for sure.

O: Not great, not awful. A decent easy drinking beer but you could definitely do better.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. Bottleneck says PKG on 11/07/13.

A- Pours a very clean dark amber color with a 1/2 inch light tan head that retains a bit before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a half sheet of surface foam. Non-resilient lacing slides quickly down the glass leaving a jagged ring behind.

S- Very glassy aroma with some cracker-like malt underneath similar to a light macro lager.

T- Alcohol, bland semi-sweet malt and water. That's it. After a few sips it becomes somewhat drinkable but there are no redeeming qualities overall.

M- Sticky and thin. Medium-low carbonation and a lightish body.

O- Wow, this will likely be going down the drain. I don't normally like Vienna lagers but this is a real disaster. Easily the worst offering I've had from Starr Hill.

Poured from a bottle into a cheap glass stein. Nice medium amber color with a good head. Very little lacing. Not overly hoppy - nice balance between hop and malt. Hints if citrus. Nice, refreshing beer. Need to make a trip to the mountains to try this on tap.

Serving: Bottle

Not too impressed with this one. It didn't pour much head, and there's not much in the way of lacing. It's got a sweet and sour taste, which isn't too bad. It's a little heavy on your tongue, which makes it a little more enjoyable.

Overall, I think this is an okay beer and would probably be enjoyable on a hot day.

Pours a light amber color with a nice rush of rising bubbles. Little foam cap serves well.

Cereal grains and herbal and citrusy hops. Light toast.

Tastes refreshing. Toasty grains and caramel malt with a dry hop kiss. Medium bitterness and hardly a trace of booze. Pretty mild flavor.

Crisp and spritzy. Almost sharply so, but in a good way. Easy to enjoy.

This is a nice diminutive amber lager with a light hop presence that I like. Very enjoyable.

A: Strong quick paced effervesce within a pristine bright orange body. The head is pale beige, skim milky, and thin, quick to dissipate without much sight of lacing.

A: Spicy oragnes, fresh grains, small sweetness from the specialty grains.

T: Grainy flavor, stalky barley, with a bit of spicy orange character, semi-dry, which finishes with some dry flowery hops. A bit scratchy, dry, grainy not so much sweetness that ones expects from vienna with quick sips but shows some signs with more longer, savory sips along with some toasted barley and dry flowery hop nature.

M: Moderate crispness, creamy, milky, toasted warmth. Dry flowery hop finish off the tongue.

O: Overall some hops, little sweetness, drinks more like a hoppy lager then an vienna. Drinkable, but hardly impressionable or near style demands. A 3.25 seems to nail every catagory here, not quite good, but a hair above average in most regards.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a orange straw color with a fluffy white head, very nice looking for a Vienna lager. Smells of sweet grain, very balanced, but a tad bland. Tastes of barley lightly roasted and very slight hops, nice for a lager with some great taste. Beer is carbonated a little on the heavy side but is very refreshing and goes down well. Overall, an above average beer.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a light brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of grains, some malts. Taste is the same, mild, some grains and malts, a touch of sweetness, a hint of bitterness at the finish. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 45 degrees. The beer was a dark amber tan color with no head at all. Ugly for sure. The beer smelled like beer nothing special. However I liked the taste. It was a sock knocker, but it was decent. For no head I thought it tasted fresh. I will try this again maybe on tap would be good.

Picked this up in Charlottesville with two buddies while in town for a football weekend. Dull, lifeless light brown color with a thin off-white head that caps quickly. Nose is sweet malt mixed with yeast and a touch of floral hops.

Flavor is refreshing and relatively balanced but simply not that tasty. A bit of skunk or sour or something colors the taste throughout and into the finish and aftertaste. The texture is a bit heavy, which limits its use as a lawnmower beer. Something just not right here. Not doing it for me.

A: single finger head with decent lacing on a hazy crimson body.

S: sour caramel malts, breads, biscuit

T: toasted but sour malts, breads, yeast. the hops are bitter, tart and earthy.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: I didnt like this one very much. It isnt very balanced and is too sour for my liking.

Part of a mixed 12 pack, last one left to review. Pours a semi see-thru golden color, smallish head to it. Not much at all in the nose. Taste is light to medium bodied, pretty good mouthfeel. Nice lager taste; good balance with the hops/malts not outweighing each other. Finishes clean and smooth. A nice, solid beer.. no outstanding flavors but goes down easy and is very drinkable.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a light amber/golden color with a thin white head. The head fades fast to leave very little lacing.

Smell – Mainly of bread and some yeast aromas as well. Mixed with this is a somewhat sweet caramel aroma with lighter hop aromas of floral nature.

Taste – A lightly toasted flavor meets the tongue initially. There are light sweet notes of fruit; citrus and some peach and apricot. As the taste advances a light hoppy flavor comes to the tongue. These flavors take the taste to the end and leave a rather pleasant semi sweet/ slightly hoppy flavor on the tongue.

Mouthfeel –The body is on the average side as well as the carbonation level. Both are quite fitting and appropriate for the flavors of the beer.

Overall – Easy to drink, but again nothing to special. Good flavors, but nothing to go out of the way for.

Served in pint glass, this beer has a darker gold color and hoppier aftertaste than the average lager. I am a fan of a slightly maltier brew than this, but did order a second glass. Jomo Lager would be a good complement to a basic pub-food menu, but it is not a beer I would go searching after.

A: Pours a light amber color that verges on orange. Appearance is slightly cloudy with minimal head.

S: Biscuity, sweet, tea-like and sour aroma.

T: Definitely getting a strong biscuit taste. The hop presence is minimal, but I can taste some bitterness so I know they're in there. Somewhat sour aftertaste that is typical for me in most lagers. There are some caramel notes as well. Actually rather pleasant.

M: Medium bodied beer that's not overly carbonated.

Overall, this is not a bad lager. I've had many craft lagers worse than this, to say nothing of BMC offerings.

A: Just average looking - gold color, crappy retention, no lacing really. Not expecting much for a lager though.

S: Metallic, yeasty, a bit of fruit, nice hop notes.

T: A little sour for my taste, but not bad. Yeast makes a nice appearance, but the sour still hangs around. Finish is sour again, but the hops come through nicely. Nice sweet malt out front too which makes it enjoyable. A pretty good lager.

M: Great carbonation, pretty dry and clean which is nice, light body.

D: Goes down well. Definitely a good beer to have with a burger, for instance.

12 oz dated purchase before Dec. 2011 and served in a pint glass. Tad of sediment on bottom of bottle added mid-tasting.

Pours a nice orange-amber, dark for style, but with only a little off-white head that rather quickly reduces to a ring.

Not much in the way of aroma, although both light/medium malt and spicy hops are evident. The flavor too seems at first unremarkable, but there is an extra bit of bitter hops in here, as well as some 'extra' malt. The body is a bit fuller than average.

O - This is not a particularly bold or interesting style, and this beer stays too close to the low expectations for a macro-brewery lager excepting the extra spicy and bitter hops. The semi-dry and relatively full mouthfeel also elevate this beer. Still, I found it not flawed, perhaps, but not good or interesting enough to recommend to anyone except fans of this style.

The beer is a golden slight copper color that is a little hazy.  The head is about 1/2 a finger thick and the carbonation is visually present. The aroma is odd at first. There an earthy bread-like smell that reminds me of a basement. There is also a faint hops scent and a malty tone. The flavor is sweet with hints of honey, caramel, and wheat bread. A very mild sense of hops while in the mouth. It's slightly tart, has a light body and a clean dry finish.

Poured into a pint glass. Strong golden color. Nice head.

Smells like a lager/pilsner - hard to describe.

Relatively bitter. A good balance between hops and malt.

Smooth, yet pretty well carbonated.

It's decent - I don't dislike it. But I'm more of an ale guy.
