Great beer. Got it right off the tap at the brewery. This beer is really hard to find, I have never heard of it until having it at the brewery. I guess you can order a keg from them of it. It is definitely worth the trip to Crozet!! Plus it being a harder beer to find makes the trip even more worth it.

When I was there they just cracked a new keg of it, all I can is amazing.

Starr Hill's new Maibock, 6.2% abv, enjoyed from a fresh growler, filled about an hour before cracked. Poured into a traditional American pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a light, yellow amber body, lighter than expected, capped by a thick, two-finger, white, foamy head with above average retention. The body itself is crystal clear and full of multi-sized and relatively quick effervescence. Lacing is soapy, and not as sticky as the head. Good, but it could be a little darker and a little stickier.

Aroma: Vaugely toasted malts somewhere far off, slightly biscuity, with a big helping of light, estery fruits, pears and apples, perhaps cherries. Interesting combination.

Taste: Very toasty, with nice caramel and toffee overtones. Similar to the aroma, there's tons of fruit - apples, cherries - and a few grassy, leafy notes. The whole experience is also slightly "bock-like" - that is, this beer displays a few sweet, gummy bear notes. There's also a faint chemically, perhaps-alcohol-perhaps-not-alcohol note in the background. It doesn't dominate, but it's noticeable throughout.

Mouthfeel: Subtle, very soft, with gentle bubbles in a medium bodied brew.

Drinkability: Surprisingly true to style and perfectly, pleasantly quaffable. The abv% isn't high, and - despite the fact that I think you can taste it a little - the flavors and aromas worthwhile, well-balanced, and enjoyable. Beats the pants off the Jomo, anyway. If you see this on tap around town, check it out. I'm really glad that Starr Hill is expanding their repetoire, and hopefully will continue to produce brews like this one.
