Served on tap in a willibecher at the Grady Ave. Starr Hill outpost.
A: Clear gold with short cap of off-white foamy head with good retention and ample lacing.
S: NZ type of hoppy aromas with lime, passion fruit, orange, and guava. Not much for malt aromas, maybe a touch of pils malt breadiness. Fruitiness of the hops makes it tough to assess for yeast character but no obvious esters.
T: Flavor is pleasing with similar tropical NZ hoppiness strong on lime, guava, and passion fruit with some orange in the aftertaste. Bitterness is low-medium. No obvious esters — the fruitiness seems hop-derived and there is no bubble gum or candy like characteristics.
M: The beer does not pull off a lager feel — it really drinks like an ale with a thicker less crisp feel than I would expect in a lager. Possibly it is the hop oils, but the body was easily medium and probably more with lowish carbonation that would have worked better if it had been dialed up another notch or two.
O: I enjoyed my encounter with Jubilee, but I have some doubts as to whether it is a true lager, but I will give it the benefit and call it an undercarbonation and possibly mild underattenuation issue.
