Very surprised by this one!!! I've had 6 previous brews from Starr Hill and only one got a rating of 4.0 or higher. This is the 2nd one!!! Poured from a 16 oz can into my Chimay goblet, this beer was a clear medium brown color with a lot of reddish light coming through. There was a small bubbly off-white/cream colored head and only filmy lacing on the glass. The head faded rapidly. Aroma and taste include somewhat sweet malt, dark fruit (cherries and plums), a little yeast, some toffee and brown sugar. The smell and flavor were quite good. The stronger Belgian style don't lend themselves that well to imitation (Ommegang and Unibroue being the exceptions). Yet Starr Hill did a nice job on this one!!! Mouthfeel is crisp with enough complexity to keep your interest, There was some alcohol presence but it wasn't that harsh. On the whole, a very enjoyable beer!!!
