Something struck me as strange in this edition of an ESB. As a caveat, the Sea Dog IPA is my favorite in Maine, and I really like their ales. I hope that someone else can review this beer with a palate that can discriminate between hop flavers better than I can, and can tell me what is going on.
Gorgeous pour, light amber in bright sunshine, with a very small bubbled head and fine lacing. The hop bite, though, which I expected to smack of London, or even Oregon, instead gave me that Germany or France feeling, especially reminding me of the Bitter by Fischer D'Alsace, which is a lager, not an ale (?!?!) This is not to say I didn't like it... its strong malt note balanced well with the grassy assertive hop. There's also some nice alcohol warmth in the mouthfeel and a long balanced finish. I ordered one on cask to see if I could do some more research, but the waiter told me that the firkin had just been changed.
