The Imperial version of Velveteen Habit IPA, this Citra hop bomb is deceptively smooth at 9.2% ABV and a sensory melting experience.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, amber color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of pine, toasted caramel and hints of citrus. Very malty with toasted caramel and toffee. Piney, citrusy bitterness.

A - creamy beige head caps a very hazy deep amber colored ale
S - big juicy citrus aroma of orange and grapefruit, caramel malt, and a bit boozy
T - orange and grapefruity citric hops meld well with sweet caramel malt and toasty grain, some pine and mango rides out the finish
M - fuller body, alcohol is warming, finishes both bitter and sweet
O - good DIPA here. I'd try it again.

Citrus, pine and funk right off the bat. It's NOT a fruity beer, so don't let the citrus notes deter you. This is a well balanced brew. Warmth of the 9.2 ABV slides into second like a pro. Not boozy at all. Medium dense head with nice lacing. Lingering, bitter-stickiness on the back end. Wash it down with another one, or meat, or roasted nuts. A really enjoyable, semi-complex brew. You'll love this!

Aroma is dank/spicy hops and nutty/peanuts. The flavor is citrus, pine needles, peanuts, malts, grapefruit and a mix of spicy and bitter in the finish.

Never liked Ale Asylum until I had Velveteen Habit. Haven't had many imperial citras so perhaps my rating is a bit high as I love citras and this was something relatively new to me. Very, very drinkable for the ABV.
