Served in straight pint glass. Poured a slightly cloudy golden-amber color with about a half-inch of white head that had decent retention and lacing.
The aroma was pretty typical for the style, some nice grains supporting hops that were applied with an even and gentle hand. The flavors were even and well balanced as well, grain and hops in a good example of a classic style.
The body was good, full, smooth and even. Drinkability was good, I could have easily had a few of these. Overall, a good, solid brew that may not thrill you, but would certainly be an enjoyable companion. Worth trying when you see it.

Appearance - Nice toasted orange color, head reduced quickly to just a few bubbles lacing the glass.
Smell- Smells of biscuit and toffee. I was unable to pick up any hop aroma.
Taste- Dry and crisp. Finishes quite bitter. A nice English bite. Well balanced bitterness.
Mouthfeel- Medium bodied yet somewhat thin. It seemed to be missing something I couldn't quite put my finger on.
Drinkability- Easy drinker. Would make for an okay session beer. This beer seemed to be rather two dimensional. The body seemed to fade quickly on this while the hop bitterness lingered.

On a return visit in July 07 I was pleased to note a beer on the Hood Canal menu Id never seen before. I was even more pleased to discover that this brilliant oak-colored ESB was easily the houses best session ale. Though dilute in appearance and largely devoid of suds, its golden hue and biscuity malt character grabbed my attention, and the firmly rooted bittering drove it home. The aroma was nearly absent but for a distant fruitiness detectable only if you made the effort to locate it.
Bywater delivers English-style bittering and traditional attributes. Though not as chewy as some bitters, its a cinch to drink.
