Probablly not retired, although I've noticed that Port Townsend re-releases only about ten beers and makes minor changes in ABV and sometimes name. No need to add a beer with minor ABV changes. Besides, the label looks the same.

I like Amber and I like PT's Amber. It starts with barely above average Looks, a nice foam that spots the glass. Smells are average, mostly sweet malts with caramel clearly in the bill. Tastes are balanced because by mid-palate the hops announce themselves but stay in the background until the glass is finished. Americans liking a strong hop finish probably suppressed a true expression of this Amber's quality. Not medium-mouthed, bordering on watery; but light can be delicate and this brew is for delicate malt-heads like me (DMHLM, there I just invented an acronym and encourage you to top it.)

But I give very good Overall Hugs because Port Townsend appreciates malt-lovers which we, in turn, appreciate. See my previous review for how they can improve. Cheers !

I was lucky enough to pick up a bomber of this just before embarking on a missed summer due to military work-ups, but now that I'm home for a minute I can finally share the notes I took down when I reviewed it:

A- poured a translucent coppery brown with a decent crown of eggshell-tinted head that stuck for about a minute

S- some caramel malts, but really not much else

T- a little bit of caramel and biscuity malts, and a touch of light hops, but very mild and low-profile flavor overall

M- light-bodied, appropriate carbonation, with nothing offensive at all about it

D- despite a lack of over-the-top character, it's one of the more sessionable beers i found in this beer-rich part of the country, and i'm sure someone misses it out there- especially with no amber ale in their current lineup to replace it

Acquired at Port townsend in a 22 oz. Appearance is a nice amber with a nice head and lacing. Smell is slightly sweet with malt and maybe bread dough. Taste has malt, caramel and spice with a Mouthfeel that has some good body to it with good hop bite and carbonation.

I bought bomber of Port Townsend Amber in a grocery store while vacationing on the Olympic Peninsula. Poured in too a pint glass.

Pours a tea brown color with red hues, and is hazy. Almost no head on this one, even on an aggressive pour. What little foam there is disappears in a flash. There are a few bubbles rising in the beer.

The smell is fairly strong and sweet. There is sweet brown sugar or molasses aromas, along with some faint floral notes.

The taste is also fairly strong and multifaceted. There is a caramel malt flavor, along with some sweet smoky vegetable taste, like squash or pumpkin, and some mild spices, nutmeg maybe. Mildly bitter hop finish, with an aftertaste that is shortlived.

Mouth feel is light and fairly crisp, not as cloying as one would expect from the aromas and flavor.

This is a fairly drinkable beer. Initially the taste put me off, but the more I drank the more I liked it. A pretty nice amber, with a good fall flavor. It would be good any time, but it is particularly appropriate for a fall brew.

Label has a sailor on a mast saying "thar she brews!"

A - Poured out a cloudy, redish-amber color with a small, short-lived, white head. It left sticky rings of lace.

S - It smelled of malt and caramel.

T - It tasted of Cascade hops which added a little spiciness. It had a caramel malt flavor, too.

M - It was crisp and smooth. A light to medium-bodied beer.

D - This was a pretty descent amber ale. A little hop kick to it with a nice malt taste.
