Sampled on 10/4/14 at annual pumpkin tasting party, reviewed from notes:

Poured from bottle into tasting glass

A- Maybe the only thing that was halfway decent with this excuse for a beer...(foreshadowing?) Typical light bodied pumpkin beer...light golden with a bit of orange

S- Smell was hops, cinnamon, vegetal pumpkin, other spices

T- YUCK! This is disgusting! Sorry, but this is the worst tasting pumpkin beer and quite possibly the worst tasting beer I have ever had. It was spicy yes, but the hops and bitter vegetal pumpkin taste did not meld well at all. A bad chemistry experiment. The bold vegetal taste painted a disturbing image in my mind of a giant machine grinding up pumpkin seeds and old dried up stems and dumping them in the vat with chunks of rotting pumpkin flesh...another flavor that seemed to come up unanimously among the seven other individuals sampling this beer: Soapy!

M- Mouthfeel was ok as far as carbonation goes...however the beer didn't last long enough to really tell. I just swallowed it to get it out of the way.

O- A beer brewed from Shipyard? More like SHIPWRECK! I have never tried any of the other offerings from the Waterfront line but probably never will. I have only seen them at Hannaford Supermarkets. I read that the others had poor reviews too. Even the packaging is very off-putting on this line up and it is sold right next to the Shipyard brews in the store at only a dollar less. The store only has a handful of a selection of craft but takes of the shelf space with three or four Waterfront offerings. I thing Shipyard should scrap this line. WHY??? With the thousands of choices out there. I couldn't imagine anyone liking this beer. I can't even imagine the "brewmaster" saying, "yup, this is good enough to bottle and sell for money." Well that was quite the rant but yikes...this was probably the worst beer I ever had. Shipyards Pumpkinhead is a much much better beer and much different than this. There are absolutely no similarities in my opinion. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BEER!!!

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. 2014 batch. Sampled on October 6, 2014.

Brilliant orange pour with a quick fuzzy head. Excellent clarity.

Aroma of nutmeg, rosemary, basil, pepper, and some other pungent herbs and spices.

The body is thin but smooth

Irritating spicy bitterness at the end.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Golden in color with a thin white head that lingered. No lacing on the glass.

Smell: Smell of spices like nutmeg and hops. Not really any pumpkin.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium to light bodied. Taste of hops, pine notes withhints of pumpkin pie like spices.

Overall: Exactly the same as Shipyard Pumpkin Head Ale, not surprised since it is owned by Shipyard.
