This one says 5.5% alcohol. From the large, soon to expire, bottle, it pours a nice brown color with a modest head that slowly dissipates and leaves lacing. In the nose, it is light caramel and roasted malt. In the mouth, it is very pleasant lightly roasted malt flavor. Nice!

I've never had a porter like this. Overly carbonated with a tangy, almost tart character. There's just no depth to this. There's something odd in the flavor profile of this that I can't put my finger on. Porters are a pretty straight forward style, and I've had many good ones. This ain't one of them.

A huge, four-inch, frothy chestnut head turns rocky while settling to one-half inch. This Porter is black with dark cola highlights and spotty lace in a Cisco pint glass.

The aroma is soapy with a background of malted chocolate and a hint of roasted malt.

Mild chocolate syrup opens, followed by light roasted malt. Cola flavors, maybe subliminally induced, but are present. The finish is long and modest.

A medium body with nylon texture. High carbonation and alcohol as expected.

This is an okay beer once one gets past the aroma, and would be enjoyable after work with friends.

Pours a dark mahogany with moderate head.
Smell is light sweet malts. Faint chocolate odor.
Taste is sour and bitter. It overpowers the vague coffee/chocolate taste.
Thin and watery.

Pours a brown color with a lot of rising bubbles, and a frothy, lingering three-finger head. Aromas and flavors of chocolate. Nothing too complex, but a solid, well-done porter.

Awful porter.

This beer lacks everything that makes a porter exceptional. The smooth taste of coffee and chocolate that I come to expect from a good porter are virtually nonexistent. In their place is a harsh, unrelenting assault of hops that is reminiscent of a strong pale ale. Over-carbonation only adds to this unpleasant and unending experience. As a porter enthusiast, this beverage left me extremely disappointed.

This is a overly carbonated beer with close to no aroma. Taste was very mild,I got no coffee but maybe a little malt and possibliy something similar to vanilla. It was okay but weak on flavor and too high on the carbonation

Poured from a brown 22 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1 inch head. Smell is mild, some roasted malts. Taste is also mild, roasted malts, light coffee, not exactly bursting with flavor. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is ok, but nothing special.

Just awful. Stouts and Porters are my favorite style. As others have said in their reviews there is a sharpness or bitterness to this. I cannot detect the hints of chocolate or coffee other reviewers mention. It is so bad I want some of my friends to try it simply for comparison sake...but I don't know if I want to subject them to this. I also tried their Amber Ale...which isn't bad.

Something has changed as ABV now 5.5% as has the bottle label. Color is dark. Really dark. Black enough light will not pass through. What light does go around the edge of the glass is a dark red hue. Head was tan, did not last, and left no lace. This can be poured to the top. Smell is chocolate. To me taste is chocolate with hint of coffee (expected) on the palate and hops on the tongue. Aftertaste is faint coffee and hops. Interesting combination but lingers well. Feel is smooth (again, expected). Similar to a cream ale.

22oz bottle

Really a 1 dimensional brew in a decent way. All roasted malt and strong coffee finish. Not a beer that I would come back for a 2nd bottle.

Dark brown with head khaki / tan and a little durable. Nose: straightforward and promising of a balanced flavor profile. But that's not what I tasted. Before tasting things seemed promising if perhaps undistinguished. But on tasting the flavors seem unevenly distributed, with a mild opening, leading to a big "flat cola" aspect that hit mid-taste. After that a mild bitterness takes over, nothing extraordinary. But the flavor seemed to come in waves that weren't nicely integrated. Mouthfeel slightly creamy after holding it for a bit, but this fades fairly quickly. Overall, uneven.

Dark brown pour, 1/4" tan head. Aroma had some chocolate malt, nothing exceptional or shitty.

Taste was lots of chocolate malt, but not exactly chocolate. Some c hop bitterness. Above average chewiness and viscosity, some dark fruit bitterness and anise seeps into the mouthfeel. Chewiness enhanced by low carbonation.

Its ok to try, not good enough to repeat.

Pours with a lavish red-white head. This beer falls within all of my visual hopes. Underneath the generous head lies a reddish-brown brew that promises a wonderful taste. Strawberries run strong with this one, dominating the taste and making a sweet and easy beer to drink. Not bitter at all. This beer is enjoyable, yet ultimately forgettable.

Thanks for the times, Scuttlebutt.

12 oz bottle. no bottling info

The look is the definition of what a porter is supposed to look like. Deep black body with a tan head . Good retention, some lacing .

I noticed the the smell is really dependent on the serving temperature. Right out of the fridge it wasn't prominent at all, but as soon as it warmed up a bit it really took off. Smell is cocoa with roasted coffee beans.

Taste mainly follows the (warmed up ) smell but there is a slight hop presence too

Feel is a little thin for a porter

Overall a decent porter. Not the best, but not the worst, and a good value for the dollar.

Appearance : Pours a light chestnut color out of the bottle which develops into a shade of chocolate brown in the glass. The head is 2 fingers and stable, fluffy, leaving webby lace as it recedes.

Smell : Cocoa powder, roast malts, coffee, Krackle bar. Very inviting.

Taste : More coffee and roast malts than chocolate, which is okay. This is a very smooth porter. A little earth and nice hop bite but not too much. Fairly balanced, if a little staggered.

Feel : Roasted, smooth, lightly creamy, ending with a polite dryness.

Overall : This is a solid porter. I still don't know why this brewery doesn't get the ratings it deserves!

Fine looking porter, but very average. Don't rebuy. OK if no other options.

Dark color.

Vaguely unwholesome smell.

Flavor of mild malt, and long dry, hoppy bitterness.

Mouthfeel is ok.

Overall, meh.

Too dry for the style. Very light-bodied as well. Slightly weird, almost metallic taste at first, although it mellowed as it warmed up. Don't think I'd drink this one again.

Very bitter for a porter, roast grains bringing some stout like bitterness, almost black body supports a fluffy beige head. Burnt toast aroma leads into full on roast bitterness, overall body belies somewhat watery mouth feel

Pours a beautiful, dark, opaque brown with a creamy looking, though not long-lived, tan head.
Smell is roasted & toasted malts, some coffee, an astringent note with a touch of green wood. Well balanced.
Taste is coffee and burnt malts forward, a bit of the astringency and not a lot more.
Medium-ish body, lighter effervescence that tickles the whole surface of the tongue. Drying, fairly clean finish for the style. A little too burnt coffee for me, could definitely benefit with a bit of complexity.

12 ounce bottle -> snifter glass

A - pours up the expected obsidian opaque black with a big two finger caramel colored head. retention is fair. Lacing is good.

S - sweet molasses and chocolate, very rich and aromatic

T - This is the definite weakness. It has a typical porter flavor profile but there are two elements that just don't work here for me. The first is a cola like flavor. I'm good with that, but in this case it is too strong. The second is a big sour note which is more of a deal breaker for me. There is a mild earthy hop taste at the finish, but it is a little too understated for me.

M - decent carbonation, no real aftertaste.

O - drinkable but unbalanced. As a big porter fan, this one falls short of what I want my porters to be. (Smuttynose Robust, Bells, Founders, Sierra Nevada, and Old Leghumper are better examples.)

Good smell and look. Very heady on the pour, a little too carbonated, a bit sour in the end. Still, it had some of the basic characteristics of most porters. Nothing to brag home about. Would not buy a six pack of it, but an ok beer if you want a porter and can't find a better one.

Poured out a deep inky black with no light getting through anywhere. There's a creamy tan head than lasts around the circumference and leaves spotty lacing. The aroma is very mild, but does have some hints of chocolate amongst the roast malt. The taste is mostly very roasted malt (you could say burnt) with some light earthy hops on the finish. There's a nice silky feeling and solid weight to the body. A good porter.

Poured a nice deep, almost black/brown with a reddish tint and a half finger of off-white head. About right for a porter. It looks true to form and quite nice. Scents of roast malt, black coffee, dark cocoa, some creamy vanilla-like aromas and some soy sauce. A good, typical porter aroma. Nothing amazing, but pleasant. Taste begins with roast malt, some dark chocolate, black coffee notes, sweet caramel flavors, some slight fruity flavors, faint vanilla and some slight sour flavors. These flavors are sustained throughout the sip and into the finish. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with roast malt and burnt vegetable matter notes. A bit sweeter than some other porters, but fairly true to style, nothing out of the ordinary, but that's good sometimes. Not too complex, pleasant and easy to drink. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation, and a somewhat creamy feeling. Quite easy to drink, as a porter should be, though the carbonation may be just a touch too high. Overall this is a good porter. Its nothing out of the ordinary or amazing, but it is a good, down-to-earth session ale. If that's what you want this is a good bet.
