Notes / Commercial Description:
A single batch of our house Great Pumpkin Ale, brewed last year, was laid to rest on Halloween Night. A quintet of oak barrels held the beer fast, beneath the antediluvian beams of the cellar.

Hazy dark orange, lasting foam with drippy spotty lace.

Tart and oaky with a woody campfire quality to it. Crisp and lactic tartness, interesting woody funk, finishes dry and very clean. Bit of a drop off at the end. Spices are vague and dovetail well with the woody barrel notes. Overall this was unique and interesting, thanks Thomas & Jenny!

Apparently this is Great Pumpkin Ale from 2012 aged in barrels that must have Brett in them. I was pumped to hear about it and not sure what to expect. Notes from last night.

A- Served from the tap into a tall goblet. Hazy dark orange body with no head, almost looks more like a juice or wine save the few bubbles around the edges. No lacing at all for me.

S- Pretty funky and earthy feel off the top upon my first whiffs. Pronounced Brett wild character with dry grassy barnyard funk and just a tiny hint of band aid after some time. Underlying pie spices and winter squash come through nicely beyond the funk.

T- More base beer pokes through the barrel influences in the flavor which works out nicely. Pumpkin beer still feels relatively fresh and I've always like Great Pumpkin Ale quite a bit. Pumpkin, vegetable, nutmeg, clove and that pie spice is still quite nice and prominent. Brett and barrel take up the rest of the flavor with lemon tartness, hay, barnyard, funk, cherry and earthy notes. Some oak flavor and tannins.

MF- Creamy yet foamy moderately thick body. Finishes dry with some bitterness and spiciness lingering on the palate. High end carbonation.

Flavor seems to shift back and forth between Brett barrel funk and an already nice Pumpkin Ale base. These flavors work together quite well.
