Pours a medium brown. The flavors in this have rounded out really well. There's some dark fruit fig newton on the finish. There's some nice spice character to go along with the oakiness of barrel. It's a beautiful representation of what Blunderbuss is.

Enjoyed at the barley wine festival. Reviewed from notes.

A - Poured into a snifter a lightly hazy honey chestnut hue with a thin head that fades to leave light lacing.

S - Aromas of incredibly faint bourbon, rather faint light caramel, faint dark fruits. Everything is quite subtle.

T - Taste is loads of malt sweetness, very light bourbon, the barrel is really faint too. The hops are subtle with the finish being mostly just caramel and alcohol booze.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated and crisp, clean.

O - Overall this was a solid beer. Nice caramel notes however the bourbon was a bit on the fainter side.

From Notes.

The beer pours very little head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is an opaque ruby brown. It has a pretty good look.

The smell and taste share the same notes but the taste is the better of the two. Both have oak notes and bits of vanilla with a slight alcohol note. Also, a nice dark fruit note with rye. The difference is that the rye doesn't appear in the taste but in the aftertaste and the notes in the taste are a bit more vivid. Also, slight hop notes in the aftertaste as well.

The feel is good. Heavy bodied with a thick and smooth body. Slight alcohol burn in the finish.

Overall, a very good beer that was definitely worth the expense and long trip to Cambridge from JP. Recommended.
