Sampled on tap at the brewpub.
This ale poured a very dark red-brown with creamy, off-white foam that left some lace. The smell was dominated by hops but with hints of caramel malt and a bit of butter. The taste was strong caramel and some roasted malt flavors with a mild hop presence and hints of butter and oak. The mouthfeel was smooth with a dry finish. The body was medium and the carbonation moderate. This was a very good red ale and an excellent session beer.
